TWO LITTLE GIRLS CAMPAIGN

E-newsletter June 2013

Campaign Highlights and News on Trafficking

Two Little Girls is a three minute animated film spearheading an anti sex-trafficking campaign in 13 East European countries that began in January 2009 and will continue into 2014. The aim of the campaign is to warn young women of the dangers of being persuaded to travel abroad with false promises of employment, only to find themselves sold into prostitution, consequently enduring years of untold cruelty. This campaign acts both as a powerful and accessible tool for the prevention of trafficking, as well as for increasing public awareness about this very complex and difficult subject. Two Little Girls Croatia Campaign 2013

Croatia is a destination, source, and transit country for men, women, and children subjected to trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced labour. Croatian women and girls are trafficked for sexual exploitation both within the country and to other European countries.
The Two Little Girls Croatian campaign has now begun and we are pleased to announce our lead partners as CESI - Centre for Education, Counselling and Research. CESI is a feminist organisation, devoted to improving the social position of women and the realisation of gender equality, and to full implementation of all laws and international mechanisms for human rights protection. CESI has based its activities on work for general well being and is focused on increasing participation of women in decision making processes,  prevention of gender based violence, promotion and protection of sexual and reproductive rights and health and advancing women’s economic empowerment. CESI was the first association in Croatia and in the region, which systematically dealt with raising awareness of young people on gender issues and prevention of intimate partner violence. CESI will disseminate the TLG film and materials in school sessions as well as through their volunteer network of peer educators. Watch the Croatian version of the Two Little Girls film here ...

Two Little Girls Ukraine Campaign 2013

Two Little Girls is pleased to announce that La Strada - the International Women's Rights Center - Ukraine, is the lead partner on the campaign and dissemination of Two Little Girls in Ukraine. Since 1997, La Strada has been working on the prevention of trafficking in persons, particularly in women and children, the elimination of all forms of discrimination and public violence, the promotion of respect for human rights, gender equality and child rights protection. La Strada Ukraine runs a National Toll Free Hotline against domestic violence, trafficking in persons and gender discrimination, a National child helpline and an Internet hotline against child pornography. La Strada's programme includes the National Trainer’s Network, a group of 260 trainers who provide events for specialists and children in 13 regions of Ukraine. La Strada will use the TLG film and materials in their existing work in schools  to disseminate the campaign to an estimated 60,000 children and young people. Ukraine is rated a Tier 2 Country by the US Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report 2012, indicating that the Government of Ukraine does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking; however, it is making significant efforts to do so.
