Welcome to a new year at SGS!
Dear SGS Families + Supporters,
This year we welcome more than 40 new students, whom we are excited to walk alongside during one of the most critical times for development—the middle school years! This year, our SGS family will include 14 5th graders, 40 6th graders, 37 7th graders, and 37 8th graders for a school population of 128.
Additions to our faculty
This year, we are welcoming two new faculty members:
Want a hot lunch?
We have partnered with Lunch Ladies Catering and orderlunches.com to offer a secure, fast, and easy-to-use online ordering system that allows parents to view the lunch menu, order, prepay, and manage student lunches on the web. To set up an account for your student and order lunches, click here »
What's happening after school?
If you are picking your daughter up anytime after 3:45 PM for any activity, please head to E1 where she will be paged by Le'Jayah, our After Care Coordinator (and SGS alum!). Monday-Thursday after school programs at SGS begin promptly at 3:45 PM and will run until 4:45 PM.
All students still on campus from 4:45-5:45 PM will report to After Care in E1 and will be charged $15/day (added to your tuition bill). On Fridays After Care and the $15 charge will apply from 3:45-5:00 PM. Please note that Scholars' Club and After Care will begin on Monday, September 12th.

5th + 6th Grade Orientation Culminations
5th Grade Adaptations Culmination, 4-5 PM: We invite all 5th grade parents to join us to the culmination of the 5th grade art project, Adaptations. The culmination will begin at 4 PM in the 5th grade classroom (girls will not need to be picked up from school prior to this).
6th Grade Opening Ceremony, 4-5:30 PM: The Opening Ceremony begins at 4 PM in Flo Ware Park (girls will not need to be picked up from school prior to this). We encourage families to bring blankets, camp chairs, sunscreen, and water to better enjoy seeing all the work that the students have accomplished in the first three days of school. Popsicles will be served.
Join Brenda, Barbara, and other families for coffee from 8:30-9:30 AM on the following dates:
- Grades 5 + 6: Wednesday, September 9

Community Association of Parents (CAP)
Come Kick Off the School Year! Join us for the first CAP meeting of the 2016-17 school year on Friday September 16th from 8:30-9:30 AM in the Singh House. Learn more about our mission and what we have planned for the school year. Regular meetings will be held on the third Friday of each month unless there is a school calendar conflict.
We Need YOU! We have volunteer opportunities for every kind of schedule from regular commitments, one time projects, chaperones, or volunteering from home. Have an idea or talent to share? Let us know!
- We are still looking for critical lead volunteers for these roles—7th Grade Rep (2) and 8th Grade Rep (1).

Meet Dr. C!
Dr. Cunningham, or Dr. C as our students know him, is a licensed psychologist who has worked in education for over 20 years. He comes to SGS twice a month to serve as a resource to our community and consults with Ms. Dede and Barbara around student learning plans, provides teacher feedback and, with parents' permission, may observe students in the classroom in order to assess and make recommendations to faculty, staff, students, and parents. You can learn more about him here »
Our Methods of Communication
We have thought intentionally about our parent/guardian communications to ensure that you are connected to what's happening at SGS. This includes a monthly newsletter (that's what you're reading now!) and weekly grade-level emails from your daughter's teachers, which are sent out on Fridays. For a peek into the classroom we also have classroom blogs, which are regularly updated.
