Why the middle matters
Did you know that middle school is the time when your brain is growing the most since you were 0-2 years old? Early adolescence is an incredibly challenging, fun, silly, scary, and important time in your life, which is why we love Middle School!
At SGS, we embrace the potential of this stage of girls' lives by framing their learning around things that are incredibly important for a middle schooler, like identity development and empowerment for leadership—not just for the future, but for now. This age group is seldom respected as the capable learners and change-makers they can be. With our expertise in how middle school girls learn and develop, we work with their strong sense of what is just and right in the world to help them advocate for themselves and others.
D.C. Bully Busters
Have you seen or read about the project that two of our sixth graders started? They are organizing other students to stand up to political bullying, so that politicians can effectively represent the people they serve. You can read about their work in The Seattle Times or watch a video of them on King 5 news. Of course, we encourage you to join them in writing a letter to your representative!

Garden work parties
Let's face it, winter is a terrible season for gardening. However, the SGS garden needs some garden heroes to bring it back to life before the spring! Work parties will be from 3:45-4:45 every Monday through January, where we will be weeding, pruning, mulching, and wheelbarrow-ing. Tools, gloves, snacks, and learning will be provided by SGS! If you are interested in being a garden hero, you can sign up here and be sure to bring clothes you don't mind getting muddy.
Community Association of Parents (CAP)
Please join us for our next meeting on January 13th! Meetings are generally held on the third Friday of each month, you can see past meeting minutes and our dates for the rest of the year on the CAP webpage.
