Moving Up

This is a week of traditions here at SGS, as it marks the end of this remarkable chapter for our eighth graders. Our whole school spent our last community meeting hearing heartfelt appreciations from our seventh graders to our graduating class. Today, our fifth, sixth, and seventh graders are looking forward to our annual Moving Up afternoon, where they will get to meet their new teachers and preview what is to come next year.

As we say goodbye to our graduates who have completed their tenure at SGS, we welcome several new students who are just beginning their middle school journey. We are excited to walk alongside these new families during one of the most critical times for development—the middle school years! Next year, our SGS family will include over 30 new families with a school enrollment of 125 students.

Graduating alongside our eighth graders is our current Head of School, Rafael del Castillo. Rafael came to SGS in 2002 as a seventh grade math teacher and has been part of the SGS family ever since. Just as we celebrate our students as they continue onto new journeys, we hope you will join us in celebrating Rafael and his new adventure as the Head of School at the Bertschi School. A Farewell Reception will be held on Wednesday, June 15th, from 4-6 PM in the SGS Courtyard.

Staff and Faculty: Transitions + Additions

Head of School:
Please help us in welcoming our new Head of School, Brenda Leaks! You can read more about her experience and educational philosophy here »

Business: It is with great excitement that we announce our new Director of Business Operations, Roberta Renton. She comes to SGS from the Chicago Waldorf school.

Faculty: Stay tuned for news of faculty additions to be announced this summer!

We Need Your Selfies!

We are putting together a photo album of our SGS students + families for Brenda Leaks, our incoming Head of School, and we need your help! We would like each family to send a picture of parents/guardians with their SGS student/s (no siblings please!). We would prefer a close-up selfie that enables us to see everyone's faces, not from too far away! A photo from the camera on a phone or computer would work great. Please send the picture in jpeg (.jpg) format to by June 16th.

Current Family Surveys

We strongly value feedback from our parent/guardian community, so if you are a parent or guardian, please take a few minutes to complete the parent/guardian survey. Your responses will be invaluable in helping us identify areas of SGS strengths and areas that may need improvement at SGS.

Community Association of Parents (CAP)

Join us for our last meeting of the year on Friday, June 10th from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Singh House. We hope to see you there!
