Welcome to STEAM Surge!
STEAM Surge is an exciting two-week period where students work in multi-grade level groups on a project that is based in science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts. These are hands-on projects that challenge students to think critically and allow for multiple outcomes to a single problem. The program also highlights the collaborative nature of real-world innovation—all of which are essential skills for success.
At Seattle Girls’ School, we pride ourselves on being a truly student-centered community. So when our students asked for more multi-grade project time, more technology, and more leadership opportunities, we made sure that these things were going to happen.
Now, every STEAM project will incorporate technology, whether it is Google Sketchup or our new coding bootcamp. We are also pairing STEAM Surge with a Humanities intensive week, writing workshop for 5th and 6th graders, and Mock Trial for 7th graders. Eighth graders will be leaders in our community, as mock trial or STEAM mentors, and abroad as ambassadors of SGS in Costa Rica.
