Our Inspiring Mentors
Question: What do candy houses, painted tiles, roller skating, Star Wars, and buttons all have in common?
Answer: They were all a part of this year’s mentor events!
The mentor program is a unique co-curricular program here at Seattle Girls’ School, where our 6-8 grade students are paired with a female-identifying mentor from the greater Seattle community. Together, these pairs challenge each other to try new things and have fun.
Of course, the mentor program is not only about free admission to museums like the EMP or the Frye, getting to work behind the scenes with Washington Ensemble Theatre, or playing beach volleyball while it hails outside (although, we’re not complaining!). At its center, the program is about women building meaningful relationships across generations. We know that having a positive role model outside of their family helps girls grow to be strong from the inside out. All you need to do is meet these mentors and you’ll be inspired yourself.
We would like to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful mentors. They are SGS’s most dedicated volunteers and advocates, and this program would not work without their tenacious spirit and commitment to our students.
The mentor program’s final event of the school year will be on Sunday, June 7th, at Madrona Park. If you know someone who would be a great mentor, please encourage them to apply for the 2015-16 school year online here.
