13th Session of CLIVAR/IOC GOOS Indian Ocean Regional Panel

From January 30th to February 1st, the CLIVAR/IOC GOOS Indian Ocean Regional Panel (IORP) met for its 13th session in Perth, Australia. The main agenda item of the meeting was the (Indian Ocean Observaing System (IndOOS) Review Workshop, jointly organized with SIBER, IRF and IOGOOS. The IndOOS Review is being co-ordinated by IORP on behalf of the international community. Read more...

Can the SST biases in coupled climate model simulations of the eastern tropical Atlantic and Pacific oceans be reduced? 

Sea surface temperatures that are too warm in the eastern tropical Atlantic and Pacific oceans have long stymied coupled climate model depictions of our planet. A fresh look and update was undertaken by the international Eastern Tropical Oceans Synthesis Working Group, with a specific focus on comparing and contrasting the physical processes governing the two basins. The Third Blue Plenet Symposium
The Blue Planet Symposium will be organized from May 31 to June 2, 2017 in Maryland, US. It will serve as a forum for discussion of societal information needs resulting from the important role the oceans play in Earth's life-support system and the challenge of minimizing the impacts of human activities on the oceans while utilizing the resources of the oceans to meet our needs. Read more...

GEOTRACES Summer School is open for
The first GEOTRACES Summer School will be held in Brest, France, between 20 and 26 August 2017. ​It aims to teach the skills and knowledge necessary for a good understanding of the biogeochemical cycles of trace metals in the ocean. The 2017 Joint IAPSO-ITAMAS-IAGA Assembly will be organised from 27 August to 1 September 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa. Representation of Physical Processes in Weather and Climate Models
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune hosted an International Workshop on "Representation of Physical Processes in Weather and Climate Models" during 13-16 February 2017. About 150 scientists participated including about 70 Early Career Scientists and about 25 International Scientists. Read more...
Call for abstracts for IMBeR IMBIZO 5
IMBeR will hold its fifth IMBIZO at Woods Hole in October. The aim of the IMBIZO 5 is to progress the implementation of the new IMBeR Science Plan (2016-2025).
