July News

from Catherine Chambers Physiotherapy and Pilates
Phew! How quickly the year has been going.
This month we discuss simple ways to help soothe the body with gentle movement. This changes the state of the nervous system and helps one feel a sense of calm. An important ingredient to improve the bodys immune function to fight infection and illness.
NB: Read further down about our discounted Individual Pilates offer (valid until the end of August). These sessions will prepare you for classes! 💜

Pilates - remote and small group classes
We are pleased to inform you that from August we will be starting a couple of in-studio, small group classes - 4 people per class. Give us a call to find out details.

Our Pilates classes have been continuing online and we send out videos weekly. We understand that work schedules are so different/unpredictable at the moment and therefore we try make it work for everyone. We still have some 'starter-kits' on offer (Pilates ball and band) at a discounted price, to allow for at-home-use. Available at reception - email us on if you wish to purchase these products.
The importance of taking a moment to calm your nervous system
We are in the age of distraction and increased stimulation - Zoom meetings, smart phones, social media feeds. We need to learn to adapt to the changing environment, especially during these chaotic times.
Taking time to simply breathe deeply and to notice how that makes your body feel, works well to bring you into the present moment, and helps to calm the nervous system. One can then tune into your body and internal environment, and your body will invite you to move intuitively. It is easier to quietly control what you can control in this state and feel OK to relax and do your best.
It is possible to transform your relationship with stress and find your way to calm your nervous system. It all starts with your own mind.
Movement has proven to be excellent for elevating one's mood and decreasing stress and anxiety. Exercising outdoors is greatly beneficial: allowing one to experience a sense of freedom and vitality, whilst breathing in fresh air.
Restorative, fun exercise is what we would encourage to de-stress - exercise where your mind quietens and becomes more curious.
Enjoyable movement calms the autonomic nervous system and allows the mind to shift to one of curiosity and creativity. Ideas of restorative activity include walks (especially outdoors), gentle Pilates, Yoga or movements that come from within, that include self expression; and fun activities like gardening.

Perhaps you could share with us your favourite movement /activity which helps you to re-charge; and that re-vitalizes you.

We wish you a month of calm!

Pilates with a view! 💜
Thanks to a client of ours, Esther, for sharing this picture with us. This is the beautiful view she sees from her window whilst she does her remote Pilates sessions. What a way to enjoy the movements from the comfort of one's home!
Do you perhaps have a picture to share with us? 👀
