August is the last of our winter months; soon the sun will be shining and the flowers blooming. Ladies, this month is for you! We wish you all a belated Happy Women's Day. We encourage you to set aside some time for yourself. Do something that is just for you; play your music loud, take yourself on a coffee date, or just enjoy a quiet moment with your favourite book or a walk along the seaside. You could even start gearing up to take part in the 10km Peace Run on the 15th of September - set yourself a goal and smash it! You can do it.
To our Muslim clients, Eid Mubarak! May your life be filled with happiness and your heart with peace and joy. Eid al-Adha was celebrated from the 11th to 15th August, with celebrations taking place all over the world.
We are open every alternate Saturday, to cater for those unable to make it during the week and/or in office hours. Bookings and cancellations for Saturdays are to be made during the week.

Pilates for pregnancy and post-pregnancy
Pregnancy Pilates is a great way for expecting moms to stay active and fit throughout all stages of pregnancy. Pilates provides a safe, low impact, full body workout. We strengthen and tone key muscle groups whilst preparing the body for labour, delivery and recovery. Pilates will not only keep you strong and flexible, but will provide the perfect antidote for the discomforts associated with pregnancy.
It is also a lovely 'loosener' exercise (which can be started 6-12 weeks post birth). The movements help to lengthen your myofascial tissues (muscles, connective tissue and ligaments); preventing the 'tightness' that can build up after holding the feeding, carrying and bathing baby postures.

Physio for lactating moms
We are offering physio support for the breast feeding moms that need help with latching techniques and/or nipple care, feeding positions and back and neck care. The challenges of breast-feeding are enormous, and can be very stressful to a new mom in the short-term, but the rewards for the infant are bigger in the long term!
There is growing commitment for the support of breast-feeding in South Africa. There are international guidelines to guide the protection, promotion of, and support for breast-feeding.* Breast feeding improves the survival, health and development of children.** * References below.
Cathy attended a Total Barre workshop last month. Barre is a combination of Pilates, dance and strength training. It improves your posture, and increases cardiovascular endurance and metabolism. It is a lovely cardio workout for those who like a challenge and moving to music!
