Macquarie Sustainability gets dirty! Have your say about the Lend a Hand M-power campaign and go in the draw to win a Coles Myer Voucher!
We want to hear your feedback!
Our last M-power theme was ‘Lend a Hand’, which focused on community volunteering and encouraging staff to use their volunteering leave to assist charitable partner organisations.
We'd love everyone's feedback on this M-power theme - regardless of whether you took volunteering leave or you didn't even have the time to look at this M-power... we want to hear from you! Plus, by completing our short survey (it will take about 5 minutes) you will go into a draw to win a $50 Coles Group & Myer Gift Card!
The survey results will provide Macquarie Sustainability and Human Resources with valuable insights and information on how we are going regarding staff community volunteering and where we need to concentrate our efforts to get more staff involved.
Macquarie Sustainability Gets Dirty On Tuesday 14 October, the sustainability team took advantage of Macquarie's volunteering leave. We spent half a day in the fresh air gardening at an elderly couples home at Turramurra.
The volunteering activity was one of the Easy Care Gardening opportunities – an organisation that provides gardening and lawn mowing services to elderly, frail and people with a disability. Over 800 households currently benefit from this service that depends entirely on volunteers.
We were greeted by the home owners, and an Easy Care Gardening Supervisor, who provided tools and guidance on what needed to be done. We weeded, mulched, pruned and transformed areas of the garden and driveway. We had a lovely morning tea supplied by the appreciative homeowners who had lived there for over forty years!
"We had a great time as a team and all experienced a sense of satisfaction in improving the garden and helping a lovely couple" said Iain Brew. "With no experience required, this is a wonderful volunteering activity that any team can do for either half or a full day.
At MND NSW Zubeda Raihaman and Annie Patricio assisted with general administration duties and assisted with a mail out to over 500 MND members. “This was a rewarding experience as it provided us with an opportunity to assist in a meaningful way" said Zubeda Raihman. "At the same time we learned about the important work that MND NSW is doing to create community awareness about this debilitating disease.â€
At North Ryde Community Aid (NRCA), Zubeda and Annie assisted with a regular social gathering of local residents at the NRCA Centre. They assisted preparing and serving morning tea and even helped to run a BINGO session!
“It was really satisfying assisting both these organisations and making friends with other volunteers. The community volunteering has highlighted how much of a need there is for volunteers in our community.“ said Zubeda.
Christmas Volunteering Opportunities
Haven’t had time to organise a team volunteering opportunity? You can get in the Christmas spirit and help out North Ryde Community Aid with their upcoming Christmas Cheer appeal. From mid-November to mid-December there are opportunities to assist with gift wrapping and sorting/packing hampers from donated gifts for local residents. In the lead up to this volunteering opportunity you could also organise an annual Christmas gift and hamper appeal with staff in your department. Gumnut Cottage and Human Resources staff have previously organised a collection drive of donations. For further details on volunteering with NRCA please refer to this information sheet.
