It's been a great (and hot!) summer so far. And there is still lots of summer left to enjoy. I encourage you to check out the new initiative, Survival Series, through SaskParks. This is the first year the Survival Series has been offered in Saskatchewan Provincial Parks and it will run until the end of August.  Interested participants can visit to find when the Survival Series programs are taking place and in which parks or continue reading below.

Test Your Survival Skills In Saskatchewan Provincial Parks

For those travelling to a provincial park this summer, participation in the Saskatchewan Survival Series is a must – a fun and educational program designed to help visitors explore parks and learn survival skills.

“Parks are a popular destination for Saskatchewan residents and visitors to our province,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said.  “This fun program offers visitors, especially new visitors, the opportunity to learn about our parks while getting familiar with safety and survival techniques.”

New In-Patient Acute Care Beds To Be Added At Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital

Plans are underway to open 36 additional permanent acute care in-patient beds at Royal University Hospital (RUH) in Saskatoon to accommodate patients admitted through the Emergency Department.

The new beds will be located in the space that will become available following the transition of maternal, newborn and pediatric services to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH) this fall.

Saskatchewan Welcomes The Pacific Northwest Economic Region Annual Summit

The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to welcome delegates to the 29th Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Annual Summit in Saskatoon this week. 

PNWER is a non-partisan, private/public non-profit organization created to advance the common interests of its 10 member jurisdictions, which include Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Alaska from the United States and Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories from Canada.  The annual summit is PNWER’s biggest networking event, bringing together private and public sector leaders from the region to address issues impacting the regional cross-border economy.

It was my honour to throw out the first pitch at the U18 Saskatchewan Baseball Provincial Championships last week. Good luck to the athletes and thank you to the many parents, sponsors, volunteers and umpires who make this event great every year! 

USask-led research teams awarded $24.2M from Genome Canada

Wheat, lentils and livestock will be the focus of a $24.2-million investment over four years by Genome Canada and its partners in three University of Saskatchewan-led research projects aimed at ensuring Canada remains at the cutting-edge of these agricultural markets. 

“The agricultural sector is critical to Canada’s economic growth and to improving food security, both at home and abroad,” said USask Vice-President Research Karen Chad. “Working with our many academic, government and industry partners, this leading-edge genomics research in our rapidly growing biosciences cluster will help crop and livestock producers address key challenges and opportunities, advancing our goal to be the university the world needs.”
