In this issue, we talked with Richard Zolezzi Counsel at Nixon Peabody LLP:

In a few words, can you present Nixon Peabody?
Nixon Peabody is a full-service law firm with more than 650 attorneys who serve clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to entrepreneurs. Our footprint is in major business centers throughout the U.S. and abroad. With our global experience representing companies, regulators, funders and leaders, we offer clients a unique level of partnership. We know their industry and get inside their businesses to help them achieve their goals. We create connections, form alliances, identify opportunities, minimize risks and help clients find new customers. We represent technology companies with our nationally known IP practice. We also have one of the largest food and beverage practices in the U.S. where we leverage our Washington DC office and its strong regulatory experience. We are national leaders in mergers and acquisitions in the middle market, in energy generation and distribution projects; and we handle the important labor, employment and commercial litigation matters that arise in a company’s daily life.

What are your specialties?
I have always been a lawyer who teams with his clients to help drive their business forward. I began my practice years ago in New York advising clients on their corporate, M&A and finance needs. I then returned to San Francisco and had the good fortune to be part of the executive team of a software company that expanded globally until its sale to Oracle. Our company had subsidiaries in seventeen countries so I know what it means to “open shop” globally. I enjoy working with private companies to help them find solutions to their needs whether that means a financing, a purchase or sale transaction or simply advice on strategy. That is what I enjoy.

What links does Nixon Peabody have with France?
We have a long history representing French companies in the U.S. and U.S. companies doing business in France. For over forty years we have represented the French aviation industry in the U.S. beginning with Aerospatiale and several of its subsidiaries, which now form part of EADS. We have assisted Veolia on infrastructure projects in the U.S., and various French financial institutions with their lending and other projects. I personally work with various French tech companies on their corporate and licensing needs as they expand in the U.S. We also have close relationships with many French law firms for our projects in France.

How are you helping the French-American community in the San Francisco Bay Area?
As a firm and personally we are strong supporters of the French business community in the Bay Area. Just in the past year alone, we have hosted at the firm panels on topics relevant to French companies present here or intending to come to the Bay Area. We hosted a week-long boot camp for French tech companies as part of the NETVA accelerator program, and we have participated in presentations to a number of French trade missions that have come to San Francisco through the FACCSF to see the vibrancy of the Bay Area and the success many French entrepreneurs have had here. I am a board member of the Chamber and am pleased to serve as a Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur de la France.
