The EFP has launched a donation campaign to help the Ukrainian people by delivering urgent health care to people in Ukraine and to refugees who have fled to neighbouring countries. The campaign has been organised in collaboration with the WHO Foundation, an independent Swiss grant-making entity affiliated to the World Health Organization.

EuroPerio10 logo EUROPERIO IS BACK!
More than 6,500 people are alerady signed up to attend the EuroPerio10 congress in Copenhagen on June 15-18. More than 130 speakers from over 30 countries will be taking part in the main scientific programme, which features a wide variety of formats – including live surgery, debates, interactive sessions, video sessions, and symposia – and sessions tailored for different audiences from academics and specialists to clinicians and hygienists. The deadline for regular-fee booking is 18 May, after which higher late and onsite booking fees apply.

APRIL 15 - DEADLINE FOR EUROPERIO PHOTO CONTEST:  Dental photographers who would like to participate in the EuroPerio10 photo contest have until April 15 to make their submissions.  Prizes in three categories – healthy gums/healthy life, dental disease, and extreme/freestyle – will be awarded at EuroPerio10 in Copenhagen.
 
 
UNDERGRADUATE ESSAY COMPETITION: The EFP has launched Undergraduate Essay Competition 2022, offering two prizes of free registration for EuroPerio10 in Copenhagen plus €500 for travel expenses. The competition, organised by the undergraduate education committee, is aimed at students of dentistry and dental hygiene/therapy at any dental school in a country with an EFP-affiliated national society of periodontology. Submissions must be made by 15 April.

ANDREAS STAVROPOULOS IS NEW EFP PRESIDENT

“Together we are stronger”, is the slogan of new EFP president Andreas Stavropoulos. In a message to members of the EFP's affiliated national societies of periodontology, Prof. Stavropoulos writes: “We should not let minor differences and special interests divide us – we should stay united and continue jointly working for the pan-European recognition of periodontology as a dental speciality, for the benefit of patients.”

SPYROS VASSILOPOULOS IS NEW ELECTED MEMBER
The EFP general assembly, held in Vienna on March 26, elected Spyros Vassilopoulos (Greece) as the new elected member of the federation’s executive committee. Dr Vassilopoulos, who has served on the organising committees of EuroPerio9 and EuroPerio10, joins the “presidential ladder” and will become EFP president for 2025-26.        READ MORE
 

EFP HOLDS GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN VIENNA
After two years in which the Covid-19 pandemic obliged the EFP to hold its annual general assembly in online form, there was much delight in being able to hold an in-person meeting this year. The general assembly took place in Vienna on March 26.                               FULL REPORT

CHAPPLE, TENNENBAUM, AND MEYLE RECEIVE AWARDS 

At the general assembly in Vienna, the EFP's Eminence in Periodontology Award was given to Iain Chapple (UK), its Distinguished Scientist Award to Henri Tenenbaum (France), and its Distinguished Service Award to Joerg Meyle.                                       READ MORE

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PRIZES: Four prizes for postgraduate research by students of the EFP-accredited postgraduate programmes were announced at the EFP general assembly. 
NEW CHAIR FOR COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE: Bettina Dannewitz (Germany) has become the new chair of the EFP communications committee, succeeding Tiernan O’Brien (Ireland) who had chaired the committee since 2016.

JCP DIGEST: The latest issues of the EFP's research summary JCP Digest cover the effect of ageing on the clinical outcomes of periodontal regenerative therapy using an enamel matrix derivative (JCP Digest 98), and whether hyaluronic acid promotes alveolar-ridge preservation (JCP Digest 99).
 


PERIO REVIEW: In the new edition of Perio Review, Lior Shapira (EFP president 2021-22) describes how challenging it was to bring about his vision of a “return to normal year” and new president Andreas Stavropoulous sets out his vision for the coming year. The annual magazine features a month-by-month account of EFP activities over the last year.

30 YEARS PROMOTING PERIODONTAL HEALTH FOR A BETTER LIFE: A special commemorative magazine to celebrate the EFP's 30th anniversary, describing the federation's evolution, its events and activities, and featuring testimonies from many of the periodontists who have played important roles in the success of the EFP over the last three decades.
