Today I am pleased to announce a policy that I have been working on with the Police Chief and the Stockton Police Officer’s Association since last March- body cameras for Stockton officers.
This announcement could not come as a better time as the whole nation is engaged in dialogue around how to improve police - community relations. Although not a magic bullet, in conjunction with police legitimacy training, continuing dialogue and community policing, this new policy change will protect both our officers and our residents and will aid in building trust and relationships with our most vulnerable communities.
