Your local land trust has a lot going on this fall – put these dates on your calendar and get outdoors with WLT!

Housatonic Heritage Hike to the Finney Monument: Saturday, September 22, 10am, Cunningham Road

Walk in the woods to a hidden monument marking the birthplace of Charles Finney, famous in his day as the father of American revivalism and president of Oberlin College. Co-sponsored with the Warren Historical Society, a WHS representative will tell us about Finney and his times, while one of our WLT board members points out natural and environmental highlights. Flat but uneven terrain - sturdy footwear recommended. Refreshments provided; bring your own water bottle. About one hour, about 2 miles. Registration recommended: From the intersection of Route 45 and 341 in the center of Warren, continue .5 miles on Route 341 W. Turn left onto Reid Road, continue .6 miles. Turn left onto Cunningham Road, and continue to the end of paved road.

Cider Run 5K: Saturday, September 29, race starts 10am - kids’ fun run at 9:45, Warren Woods

Like to run? Here’s a scenic, fast, out-and-back course, with none of the big hills our corner of CT is famous for. Like to walk? Get out and enjoy the fall foliage on a quiet stretch of Warren back-roads. Strollers and leashed dogs welcome at this 5K co-sponsored with Warren Parks & Rec. Proceeds benefit the Parks & Rec scholarship fund. Exercise in the fresh Fall air, raise funds for a good cause…and treat yourself to cider doughnuts at the finish – it’s a perfect start to a September Saturday!  Register at

WLT at Warren Fall Festival: Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7, 10am-4pm, Warren Woods

Stop by our booth when you visit Warren’s iconic Litchfield County Columbus Day weekend festival. There will be interesting information about our preserves and trails! There will be enthusiastic and well-informed WLT volunteers to share information with you! There will be gear with our new logo, including a surprise or two!  There will be prize drawings! And there will be WLT trail cookies!

Annual Meeting and Program: Saturday, November 17, 10am

Come hear what we’ve been up to in 2018, and find out what our plans are for 2019. It’s our 30th anniversary year, and we will mark it with celebration, conservation, and recreation. We are working on an interesting and engaging program…stay tuned for details.

Community Issues Forum for the Warren Town Plan of Conservation and Development: September 22, 7-9pm, Warren Community Center, 7 Sackett Hill Road - It’s time to update our 10-year plan of Conservation and Development; don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the issues facing Warren, and voice your concerns and hopes for the future. In the meantime, take this survey to let the planning committee know what is important to you!
State Referendum on a State Constitutional Amendment mandating a public hearing before state lands are sold, given away, or otherwise transferred. On the ballot November 6.  Along with many other CT conservation organizations, WLT supported bringing this issue to the ballot. Now it’s up to you to learn more! The CT Forest & Parks Association provides information here.
