WLT Winter News

Here’s the latest from your local land trust, as we head into the holiday season.

Holiday on the Hill

Kick the holiday season off with this town-wide celebration, on Saturday, 12/1 at 5pm (rain date, Sunday, 12/2 at 4pm)!

Warm your fingers and toes by our roaring bonfire, listen to holiday classics performed by local young musicians, and enjoy adult and family-friendly refreshments, featuring beverages from Litchfield Distillery andHopkins Vineyard, and baked treats, including WLT trail cookies. At the soccer field on the corner of 45/341 and Sackett Hill Road.

Want to help? We need volunteers to help with set-up, bonfire-tending (experienced fire-tenders only, please!), and clean-up. Interested? Contact us at admin@warrenlandtrust.org.

Annual Meeting 2018

We held our annual meeting on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Thanks to those of you who attended! We reviewed our activities from 2018, our plans for 2019, answered questions from the audience, and enjoyed refreshments. And then a hardy few of us hiked a very snowy Dorothy Maier Preserve trail - it was beautiful!

In case you missed it, here are some highlights:

What were we up to in 2018?
    - monitored existing properties and prepared to accept a new easement
    - cleared our trails with help from volunteers, and created our first trail map!
    - programming: hikes, road race, Fall Festival, and more
    - participated in preparing Town Plan of Conservation and Development
    - moved into shared office space in Town Hall
    - hired a part-time administrative assistant

What are our plans for 2019?
    - celebrate our 30th anniversary with you! Join us in the afternoon on 9/15 at Hopkins
Vineyard for a community picnic. Details TBD.
    - help prepare and execute the Plan of Conservation and Development; update our own
      strategic plan
    - prepare for reaccreditation by the national Land Trust Alliance
    - prepare additional trail maps, undertake a special anniversary public access project
    - maintain and potentially acquire properties of high conservation value
