Staff Changes

We wish to advise Sheep Genetics clients that Sam Gill has accepted the Genetics R&D Manager’s role with Meat and Livestock Australia. We would like to congratulate Sam and wish him all the best in his new appointment.
Sam has been a valuable part of the Sheep Genetics team since taking up the MERINOSELECT Project Officer’s role in 2004 and as the manager since 2008. Thank you, Sam, for your hard work and dedication.
We would also like to welcome Hamish Chandler back onto the Sheep Genetics staff. Hamish has been appointed as the Interim Manager of Sheep Genetics. Hamish had been the LAMBPLAN Project Officer from 2009 to 2011 and has more recently continued running his farming operations on a full time basis and doing some private consultancy work in genetics extension.

New Reporting Groups

In an effort to make ASBVs as relative to their intended market place as possible two new reporting groups have been created. The “Shedders” group for those breeds considered to be shedding types within the terminal analysis and “First Cross Sire Breeds” for those breeds considered to fit that description within the maternal analysis. These groups can be utilised within the search area on the website, the averages and percentiles are calcualted relative to that group of animals rather than the entire terminal or maternal analysis.

Incorrect data submission

The following statement has been endorsed by the Sheep Genetics Advisory comittee

‘Submission of incorrect or badly formatted data is the major cause of late processing and delays in production of key documents for ram breeders.   SG cannot accept invalid data or data supplied in unapproved formats and will inform both the submitter and the owner of the data of its rejection’

Sheep Genetics Price Schedule

As of the 1st of July 2013, Sheep Genetics has introduced a previously scheduled price rise plus an additional 10 cents per animal charge to accommodate new projects. These changes have been implemented to allow better services for subscribers. The two major projects for 2013-2014 financial year are MateSel and CRM software.
  • Matesel is an online mating predictor, similar to TGRM, which would be made available to breeders in the first half of the financial year. It enables breeders to optimise breeding outcomes by creating a suggested mating list based on a list of candidate sires and dams.
  • CRM is Customer Relationship Management software, to assist us in providing better service to all clients.
The Sheep Genetics price schedule for the next two years is contained in the table below.
