IFLRY condemn the treatment of prisoners in Egypt
In the past week IFLRY has added its voice to support Human Rights activists campaigning for the protection of Egyptian detainees, many of whom are political prisoners, during the deadly heat waves that Egypt is currently experiencing. Many activists that are critical of President Sisi and the Egyptian authorities have been detained are being held in unsatisfactory and unsafe conditions.

IFLRY therefore calls upon the Egyptian government to address the situation immediately—before it results in a catastrophic loss of human life. We further urge the Egyptian government to adhere to and to implement Article 10 of the United Nation’s Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners. The full statement can be read here.

IFLRY News from Liberal International's 196th Executive Committee
From 20 to 22 May liberals from around the world gathered in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, to discuss the increasingly central theme of ‘Safeguarding Freedom and Security’ - as well as to confirm the mandate of the members of LI’s increasingly important Human Rights Committee. We would like to congratulate IFLRY's President, Pauline Kastermans, on her successful appointment as a member of LI's Human Rights Committee where she will work with other members to bring together the work of civil society and politics and advocate it in front of, among other platforms, the United Nations.

Also in attendance was IFLRY's former President, Christian Scharling (pictured), who spoke on the panel 'Cyber-Security: how to deal with threats from abroad?' which focused on liberal solutions to cyber-crime, without compromising the right to personal privacy. Cyber security has never been more important, but is constantly forgotten in public. Christian underlined the importance of the topic for young people everywhere.
