The countdown is on...

Christmas, holidays and another year done and dusted!

As I'm sure is the case for many people, in our house the start of December means the start of many different countdowns. There's the countdown to Christmas - joyful, a little stressful and for the kids especially, incredibly exciting. There's the countdown to holidays, a much deserved break from the running around of the school year, and then there's the ticking off of the final days of 2012. It's a little hard to believe that in less than a month we'll be putting up the 2013 calendar, looking at a whole new year of fantastic reading and fun outings! TBYL will be turning two-years-old and I've got some great plans for the year to come!

The December issue of TBYL News: All Things Bookish will look a little different from past months as I'm concentrating mainly on giving you some great reading ideas for the summer - I hope it's helpful. Likewise, I've included a few new titles that I'm particularly loving at the moment.

Thanks so much to you all for creating such an incredibly bookish community in 2012, it's been amazing fun! Merry Christmas to you all from That Book You Like...

In Review

Featuring my favourite review from the month just gone...

Sally Harris' new kids book  Diary of a Penguin-napper (Frankly Books) is light, funny, illustrated and cheeky enough to engage any kid from start to finish.

"When 11 (and a half) year old Marty is partnered up with Jessica on the overnight science trip, he thinks all of this dreams are about to come true.  It’s his big chance to impress the most beautiful girl in Year 7 (and probably the world) and he wouldn’t miss it for anything. Only problem is: Marty can’t afford to go on the overnight trip. Yet."

I was lucky enough to have a chance to chat with Sally too!

New on the Reading Pile

My Reading Pile is tall and varied, but here's my pick of the bunch...

Earlier in the year I read and reviewed the first in the Intrepid series, Defender and loved it! I'm excited this month, as I can add Chris Allen's  Hunter: Intrepid 2
(Momentum) to the reading pile.

His orders are simple: ‘The safety catch is off. Return that girl to her family and drag those bastards back to justice. Dead or alive. It makes no difference to me...

If you like a fast-paced, authentic read, you’ll love this book.

TBYL Book Club: December

This month's book club will be something a little different...

Because December is so busy, and our book club week is smack-bang in the middle of the holidays, I'd like to invite you to participate in a series of discussions focusing on the books in your past... books you'd like to re-read, books you'd recommend, and books you wish you'd never picked up. Should be a lot of fun!

TBYL invites you to join the club! It's free, you can opt in and out as you like, and it's all online.

Don't forget to check out the great events on offer over at Little Birdy Tix. Sign up for a year's membership and get free tickets! Visit them at www.littlebirdytix.com
