Be My Guest...

Jackie is the brains behind the lovely site My Little Bookcase. She was kind enough to share with us a little of the 'why' behind MLB, and some information about what's going on for her at the moment.

My Little Bookcase is more than just a place to shelve your children’s books. We believe that a love of reading is one of the most important ingredients in helping children become confident and capable readers. So, My Little Bookcase was established as an online resource where parents could find a wealth of inspiring ideas for reading and sharing books with their children.

It was always an aim of My Little Bookcase to become a community for parents and caregivers to share their own ideas and experiences. The Little Book Adventure has allowed this inspirational sharing to take place, and many readers have enjoyed leave questions or comments on our Facebook page for each another.

The Little Book Adventure is a series of projects being run as part of The National Year of Reading. Participants are encouraged to take part in one project per month, the aim of each project being to help parents and teachers find new and exciting ways to enjoy and explore books with their children, and make the most of their reading experiences. We are currently into our third project, but it is never too late to join in the fun. More details about the adventure are available here

We here at TBYL have signed up to The Little Book Adventure, and the kids and I are having a ball. It really is a fantastic way to encourage a love of books and reading!

The beauty of The Book Thief is as much about how the story is told, as it is about the story itself. It is poetically told, it ebbs and flows like music. It is skillful prose, and it’s quiet intensity makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Markus’ story made me shiver, cry, smile...

New on the Reading Pile

My Reading Pile is tall and varied, but here's my pick of the bunch...

One of the newest books to be added to my reading pile is Julie Kagawa's The Immortal Rules (Harlequin Teen) a paranormal YA adventure, not for the faint hearted. Watch out for my review.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
