KCM Group Celebrates 20th Anniversary

KCM Group is proud to celebrate our 20th anniversary this month! What began in 2000 as a humble home-based operation founded by Gordon Kovtun, KCM Group has grown into a full-service firm with two divisions and 14 employees. One of the first employees of the company from those days, Senior Project Manager Bridget Black, is still an important part of KCM Group’s leadership team.

KCM Group quickly outgrew the home office and in 2010 purchased two office suites at 1940 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. As the staff grew, so did the need for more space, so the company purchased the adjoining suites, expanding the office to nearly 5,000 square feet in 2014.

KCM Group is proud of its long-standing relationships with their clients. They have worked with Pardee Homes for 20 years, Procopio for 15 years, the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation for 9 years, and Wakeland Housing and Development for 6 years.

“We have worked with KCM Group for years on projects ranging from managing our office renovations to litigation support and expert witness testimony for our clients,” said Craig Ramseyer, Partner at Procopio. “If we need a construction expert, KCM Group is one of our go-to firms.”

The company has developed a strong track record of delivering for their clients by identifying cost savings, streamlining processes, and ensuring a high-quality finished product.

“I would like to thank all of the clients we have worked with over the years,” said Gordon Kovtun. “It has been our pleasure to work with these notable companies to create lasting legacies in the community.”

San Diego Comic-Con:  State Street Office Tenant Improvements

KCM Group is proud to be working with San Diego Comic-Con managing the build-out of their administrative offices on State Street. KCM provided design management during preconstruction and helped with contractor selection and project management during construction.

The project encompasses two floors with more than 24,000 square feet of private offices and facilities on top of their own parking garage.
Features include:
  • New executive offices and conference rooms with operable windows for a conditioned and fresh air balance
  • Two new break rooms and two new gender-neutral single occupancy restroom facilities
  • Modifications to the existing building entry stairs and accessible ramp to meet current ADA and building code requirements
The new administrative offices for Comic-Con will be completed this month.
City of San Diego: Pacific Highlands Ranch Public Library
KCM Group worked with the City of San Diego to provide quality assurance and control services for the design of the Pacific Highlands Ranch Public Library. The firm’s role was to review the plans and specifications for completeness and identify conflicts in design.

KCM’s work on this project assured that an accurate set of plans was developed, provided proactive problem avoidance, identified potential cost savings, developed solutions to reduce operational costs and maintenance demands, and reduced the risk of extra work or claims to protect the City.

After the delivery of the final report, the City invited KCM founder Gordon Kovtun and Senior Project Manager Chris Boattini to share their expertise. They were featured in a virtual Design Forum, speaking to 50 project managers from the City about how to engage quality assurance and quality control in preconstruction.
KCM Group Stormwater Team to present at CASQA National Conference
We are excited to announce that KCM Group's Stormwater Team will be featured speakers on a panel at the 2020 California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) Conference. We are honored to have been
chosen and look forward to sharing ideas that we feel will move the stormwater industry in a positive future direction.

KCM Group's Panel Presentation is titled "Changing the Paradigm of Stormwater Management and Compliance on Construction Sites - Removing the Stigma through Teamwork". The presentation will demonstrate how stormwater compliance can be accomplished on any construction site by incorporating a few inexpensive management strategies and organizational tips. The panel will also feature speakers from both the development and municipal inspection arenas.
CASQA is widely recognized as California's premier professional member association within the state. Their goal is the advancement of sustainable stormwater management and protection of California's water resources. On behalf of stormwater permittees, CASQA represents over 25 million Californians.
Friars Village Homeowner's Association: Pavement Rehabilitation
KCM Group has been engaged by the Friars Village Homeowner’s Association to manage the construction associated with the repair of neighborhood streets within the Friars Village community. The streets and alleyways throughout Friars Village are in disrepair due to age, drainage issues, and soft silty sand and clay soils.
KCM provided design management, bid management, and is currently providing construction management services.  KCM also developed a storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and will manage the SWPPP through to completion of the project.

The project involves the repair of approximately 6,700 linear feet of alleyways within the community, which includes alleyway demolition, grading, erosion control, storm drain, permanent BMPs, utility relocations or replacements, asphalt pavement, and ribbon gutter replacement throughout the community. The project is anticipated to be complete in January 2021.
