Coffee Social Hosts Needed

Each month the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce hosts a Coffee Social for the Chamber members. This year we are trying something new, and that is to have these socials at local businesses. In March, we met at SKT, and in April at the Clearwater Community Center. If your business would be interested in hosting a Coffee Social, please email the Chamber at chamber@sktc.net, or call 620-584-3366.

KIAAA Athletic Director of the year

Bob Mellen, Athletic Director/Principal Clearwater High School is the 2014 KIAAA Athletic Director of the Year recipient awarded on April 11th, 2014, by the Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (KIAAA). The award will be presented during the state conference for athletic administrators at the Double Tree by Hilton Wichita Airport, in Wichita, Kansas. This award is provided annually by the KIAAA, for recognition of meritorious dedication to High School and Middle School Athletics.
Mr. Mellen has been the AD for 20 years in the Clearwater School District, 16 at the high school and 4 years at the middle school. He has been in education for 31 years total, with 27 of those years being with Clearwater. He has served the dual role of AD/principal for 4 years. Prior to his current assignment he was an assistant principal/AD, business teacher for 15 years, and head/assistant coach in football, basketball and track. Bob is an officer for the AVCTL, he is on the KSHSAA Board of Directors, and he is on the KIAAA Board of Directors. He graduated from Fredonia High School, he received his education degree from Emporia State University and his masters in administration from Wichita State.

Music At The Center

The first ever "Music At The Center" was a huge success! A total of 71 people attended the musical performance at the Clearwater Community Center. Music was provided by the "Drifters," which is a group of very musically talented individuals. This event will take place on the first Saturday of every month. The next performance will be on Saturday, May 3rd, at 7:00 pm. This event is open to the public and is free. Donations are accepted. Bring a snack to share, and come ready for a good time.

24 hour Softball Tournament

Jimmy Shipman is a local Clearwater resident who has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the young age of 27. Friends and family will be holding a 24 hour Co-ed Softball Tournament to raise money for his treatment. This will take place on Saturday, May 17th, at 12pm through Sunday May 18th. This will take place at the Clearwater Softball Fields. Their will be competitive games and prizes throughout the day.

A reminder that the First Baptist Church's monthly Ladies Luncheon takes place on the first Friday of every month. The next one will be Friday, May 2nd, from 11am - 2pm. This event is open to ALL ladies in the community, not just church members. If you have any questions, please contact Trish at 620-584-2058.

Town Hall Meeting Open to Everyone

The next Focus on Future Meeting will be held on Monday, April 28th, at the South Central Kansas Educational Service Center, 13939 Diagonal Road. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will be a hot dog feed for meeting participants beginning at 6:00 p.m in the Service Center parking lot.
Discussion topics for the meeting will include: 1) reports from the various Focus on the Future working committees—Communications, Business Park (Eco-Devo), PowerUPs , 2) a discussion as to suggested steps to bring the various discussions and planning efforts into a unified process  of benefit to the future of the community.  

Pre-Kindergarten 2014-2015

Applications are now being accepted for the Clearwater USD 264 Early Childhood Program for the 2014-2015 school year. If you have or know of a child who will be 4 on or before August 31, 2014, they are eligible to apply. The deadline to return the application is May 1st. Please call Clearwater Elementary West at 584-2081 for more information.

Free Diet Seminar

Part Time Positions

Clearwater Recreation Commission has several part-time opportunities:
FIELD SUPERVISOR
• Part-time position that supervises youth baseball/softball games May – July.
• Must be at least 18 years old
• 10-15 hours per week.
FIELD MAINTENANCE
• Job opening to assist preparing baseball fields for games and general park duties from May - July.
• Must be at least 16 years old with a valid restricted or full driver’s license
• Training will be provided
• 10-15 hours per week.
