Filing Date Looms for 2015 City Elections
The City Council is a form of government that is used in many towns and cities around the world. The members of the council are elected by the citizens, and they work together to pass laws, make general policies, supervise city government, and appropriate funds for various needs. The work of a council is usually supported by a number of specialized commissions that focus on specific issues like police, urban planning, and public works.
Two seats on the City Council and the Mayor's position will come up for election this April. However, anyone interested in running for election must file by noon, Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Filing can take place at the Clearwater City Hall with the City Clerk, Courtney Meyer, or at the Sedgwick County Courthouse.
The Mayor is the chief elected official for the City. Duties include presiding over the meetings, and establishing agendas. Among other duties, Council members vote to set policy, budget, and general directions for the City.
