Free Memory Screenings

Clearwater Senior & Community Center to Hold Free Memory Screenings

WHAT: Individuals can take advantage of free, confidential memory screenings as part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) to promote proper detection of memory problems.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 19, 2013, by appointment
WHERE:  921 Janet Ave, Clearwater
WHY: It is estimated that as many as 5.1 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease. The number is escalating in line with the aging population; the first baby boomers began turning 65 in 2011. Advanced age is the greatest risk factor, with the incidence of the disease doubling every five years between 65 and 95.
November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
This marks the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) 11th annual National Memory Screening Day. Sites nationwide are participating. Visit
www.nationalmemoryscreening.org.
A memory screening averages five to ten minutes, and consists of questions and tasks to assess memory. It does not diagnose any illness, but can indicate whether someone should pursue a follow-up medical exam.
It is estimated that missed diagnoses of dementia may be as high as 90 percent.

Girls Take A Stand Wrapping Fundraiser

"Girls Take A Stand" is a faith-based abstinence support ministry for teenage girls to let them know that Jesus loves them, and that He thinks they are beautiful and should be honored and respected. You are worth the wait! We meet once a month to discuss current issues that teenage girls face daily and what the Bible teaches regarding these issues. Come join us to discover what God's best is for us as single women or those in a dating relationship. This ministry is open to all girls' grades 7 through 12 regardless of faith. If you have any questions regarding this group and what activities we have in store for this year, contact Amey Machart via Facebook.

This group of young ladies will also be doing a gift wrapping fundraiser. It will be on Saturday, December 14th, at the First Baptist Church in Clearwater. They will be wrapping your Christmas presents for you. You can drop them off and come back, or stay and have coffee. This will begin at 9 am and last until 6 pm. For more information call the church at 584-2058.
