All the Newsies
Updates from Gwenda Bond
Hello there, wonderful newsletter subscribers! The time of Lois Lane: Fallout's release is upon us. I'm very excited to finally have this book in the world and talk about it with all of you. Please feel encouraged to send/tweet me photos of it in the wild or in your homes (and especially with your pets--I'm sucker for a pet photo!) and let me know what you think.
And in case you forgot, here's the details...
Lois Lane is starting a new life in Metropolis. An Army brat, Lois has lived all over--and seen all kinds of things. (Some of them defy explanation, like the near-disaster she witnessed in Kansas in the middle of one night.) But now her family is putting down roots in the big city, and Lois is determined to fit in. Stay quiet. Fly straight. As soon as she steps into her new high school, though, she can see it won't be that easy. A group known as the Warheads is making life miserable for another girl at school. They're messing with her mind, somehow, via the high-tech immersive videogame they all play. Not cool. Armed with her wit and her new snazzy job as a reporter, Lois has her sights set on solving this mystery. But sometimes it's all a bit much. Thank goodness for her maybe-more-than-a friend, a guy she knows only by his screenname, SmallvilleGuy . . .

What are people saying about Fallout?
"This lighthearted and playful tone permeates the novel, making for a nifty investigative mystery akin to Veronica Mars or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Readers are in for a treat. A spectacular prose start for DC Comics' spectacular lady." -- Kirkus Reviews, STARRED REVIEW
"Lois Lane has always been one of my favorite characters in American literature. Who is this human, un-powered woman who so easily stands up beside the most iconic superhero of all time? Gwenda Bond's book asks, who was Lois as a teenager? The answer is a spirited, engrossing story that kept me flipping pages and rooting for stubborn, clever, fearless Lois Lane." -- Shannon Hale, NYT bestselling author of The Princess Academy series
"So it's basically Lois Lane in a Veronica Mars-esque plot, which sounds like all kinds of awesome." -- Entertainment Weekly
There are also two FREE short stories featuring Lois available for your reading pleasure: "A Real Work of Art" and "Cloudy With a Chance of Destruction."
And the publisher has done a beautiful Tumblr filled with themed images and snippets and things, with more to come. See it, follow it, and share at will at loislanefallout.tumblr.com.
Where can you see me?
I was at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books recently, which was an absolute blast. But there are many more events in the works too. You can always check my events page for details, but here's an overview of what's coming up soon.
Fallout's Launch Party will be at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, Kentucky, on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. IT WILL BE FUN! So come. There will be a special menu in the cafe themed to go along with the book. You can pick up your book anytime, and bring it back to get it signed that night. If you're out of town? Jo-Beth will happily ship you a signed copy. Just call or email them to order.
Annnnd I'll be at BEA on Thursday, May 28, at 3 p.m., signing Lois in the Capstone booth. In June, I'm also going on a mini-tour with some of my favorite dangerous ladies--Renee Ahdieh, Carrie Ryan, Megan Shepherd and Megan Miranda--visiting some of our favorite bookstores.
Come see us! (More specific store details will be posted on our websites.)
GIrl on a Wire!
The little book that could! Starting this week, April 28, Girl on a Wire will be available in 1200+ Wal-Mart stores. This is a pretty exciting thing for me, and so I'd love to see in photos if you spot it in yours. (And buy it! Obvs! ;-)
Girl on a Wire also made the Locus Magazine Recommended Reading List for 2014, which made me extremely happy. That this book continues to find readers also makes me extremely happy, especially since I'm about to start writing the sequel. (Our next year.)
I also had my website completely redone by Clockpunk Studios, and I loooove it. So check it out, if you haven't been by recently. Pretty, right?
And I think that's it for this one, but surely this is more than enough news. I'm tired just editing this newsletter. Please consider buying Fallout to show your support for Lois Lane and spread the word if you enjoy it.
Thanks again to all of you for your support and enthusiasm. It matters more than you know, and I never ever ever take it for granted. Happy spring and happy reading!
