New busking venue at Westgate

Singaporeans can now catch busking performances at Westgate, the newly-opened shopping mall in Jurong East. Westgate is the first mall to be designated as a busking location under the National Arts Council's (NAC) Busking Scheme. Bringing the arts closer to the public, Westgate offers local buskers an added platform to share their artistic passion with the community. Busking will take place at The Courtyard with its intimate semi-outdoor streetscape, making it an ideal location for buskers and their audiences to gather.
After two rounds of competition and an intensive mentorship process with the industry's most esteemed practitioners, the SPROUTS finals will now feature the very best of Singapore's budding talents. The evening event at SOTA Drama Theatre on 11 January 2014 will showcase eight finalists as well as past SPROUTS winners, Christina Chan and Shahrin Johry.

The National Arts Council is looking for up to four outstanding and committed individuals to participate in a three-month Youth Arts Overseas Attachment Programme in the United Kingdom from May to July 2014. The attachments will be hosted by established UK youth arts organisations such as Artswork and Rhythmix, and include opportunities for networking with international counterparts. This initiative is part of the Council's on-going efforts to develop Singaporean artists, initiators, facilitators and youth engagement workers who can contribute to our local youth arts landscape. Winners of the 2013 National Piano and Violin Competition with Guest-of-Honour Mr Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth
Following nine days of intense competition, we are pleased to congratulate the 23 winners of the 2013 National Piano and Violin Competition. The winners were selected from a pool of 280 participants.

In its 9th year, this year's competition saw 8-year-old Samuel Tan Yek Hee winning the Goh Soon Tioe Outstanding Performer Award. In the other categories, 18-year-old Serene Koh and 13-year-old Shalynn Tsai Qi Yun, clinched top honours in the Piano (Senior) and Violin (Intermediate) categories respectively.
