Come, listen, and be heard on matters that affect you and the arts in Singapore. Let’s Talk!, our annual dialogue session with the arts community, will be held on 24 July 2013, Wednesday, 1.00pm, at Goodman Arts Centre. This year’s Let’s Talk! is all about being sustainable as an artist and as a community. There will be a panel as well as breakout sessions that will delve deeper into future plans for arts development. NAC held a focus group discussion with some members of the local arts community on 17 May 2013 to gather feedback on Singapore’s participation at the Venice Biennale to date, and what ought to be the model moving forward. A summary of the discussion can be found here.

Kallang Arts treats Festival, the annual high point event by Kallang Community Club (CC) was held from 31 May to 2 June 2013. The three-day spectacle featured workshops and performances by Kallang CC’s arts groups Sambiesta, Bronze Age Gamelan, Bornfire, Dian Dancers as well as acts by foreign circus arts professionals. Kallang CC is an NAC-supported Community Node.

For the first time, NAC is conducting a survey to understand the employment conditions and work arrangements of the people who work in arts and culture. If you work in the arts and culture, step forward and be counted by taking part in this survey at www.mobab-ind.com.sg!

The Noise Singapore 2013 Festival Showcase brings together the voices of Singapore’s young aspiring artists. Come and be inspired at the exhibitions and concerts that we’ve lined up at ION Orchard, Singapore Art Museum at 8Q and the Esplanade from 27 July to 1 September 2013.

Tokyo Wonder Site is now calling for international creators who are able to perform new creative activities based on the subjects which are core to their projects such as "Art and Environment", "Cultural diversity and the activities of New Art Centres", or "Possibilities of collaboration" during their 3-month residency at TWS Aoyama: Creator-in-Residence.


This two-day introductory workshop is open to all artists interested in working with communities. Held on 15 July and 16 July 2013, 9.00am to 5.30pm at the Marketing Institute of Singapore, the workshop equips participants with facilitation skills and techniques that help them engage their community audiences through the programmes they design.

NAC is collaborating with the National Institute of Education (NIE) International to offer a 40-hour module on Essentials of Teaching and Learning. This module will cover key pedagogy concepts like classroom management and developmental learning for students. Instructors who have been approved under NAC-AEP 2013/2014 are eligible for an 80 percent subsidy of the course fee from NAC. All participants will be certified by NIE upon completion of the module.

Take your first step towards becoming a writer today!

Organised by NAC, MAP is the most established writing mentorship programme in Singapore, developing young and emerging writers in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. The 12-month programme covers prose, poetry, plays and creative non-fiction, and matches emerging writers with established authors to mentor them.

Selected applicants will participate in a residency, peer reviews, workshops and public readings. Participants will receive critical feedback, as well as insights into the publishing process. Applications are now open till 15 July 2013.

Get your pens ready – Singapore’s premier creative writing competition in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil is back. Open to Singaporeans and PRs, there is no age limit and entries may be written on any subject and theme. Send your entries in by 1 July 2013, 5.00pm.

Need a quiet place to write? Looking for inspiration?

NAC is calling for proposals for the inaugural Writer-In-The-Gardens Residency Programme, where writers are given free access to write in the beautiful environment in either the heritage landmark Singapore Botanic Gardens, or cutting-edge Gardens by the Bay. The residency will include talks and workshops for the public and culminate in a publication.

The Writer-In-The-Gardens Residency is open to emerging and established English or Chinese writers from Singapore. Deadline for submissions is 31 July 2013. For more information, please click here.

The Singapore Writers Festival will be back from 1 November to 10 November 2013 and we’re almost done with our author line-up! So now we’re looking for an army of friendly Room Managers for Front-of-House and Event Operations duties.
