Writers get your pens ready – Singapore's premier creative writing competition in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil is back. Open to Singaporeans and PRs. There are no age restrictions and interested participants may write on any subject or theme. Submit your entries by 1 July 2013, 5.00pm.

Violinists and string players aged between 16 and 25 years are invited to apply now for the Goh Soon Tioe Centenary Award.

Supported by the Goh Soon Tioe Centenary Fund and administered by the Community Foundation of Singapore, the monetary Award this year will see an increase from $2,000 to $6,000.

The Award will be conferred to a violinist or string player who has shown a consistent track record of outstanding musicianship and performance.

Request for an application form by e-mailing gstms22@yahoo.com.sg. Closing date is 1 May 2013. Shortlisted applicants will be auditioned in June/July 2013. Only Singapore citizens and PRs are eligible to apply.

Don't miss an afternoon of performances and exciting activities at the NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Park on 31 March 2013, Sunday, 4.00pm to 6.30pm, at West Coast Park (Grand Lawn, near Car Park 3).

This edition of the NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Park will showcase three exhilarating forms of rhythmic percussive beats by Nadi Singapura (Malayan drums), Singapore DhoL Federation (Dhol drums), and A Bigger Bang (Chinese percussion). Fringe activities include POPIN's community craft project 'Stitch a Leaf', balloon sculpting and face-painting booths.

The Greenhouse Sessions (TGS) explore artistic processes and partnerships that address community priorities.

Organised by ArtsWok, these 6 dialogue sessions spread across the year aim to foster more collaboration, spark new ideas and raise awareness of arts in communities. As the emphasis of the sessions is on group learning, practitioners with prior experience in this field will benefit.

There will also be a dedicated online platform where participants can share resources and continue conversations.

NAC's Violin Loan Scheme aims to support Singapore's violinists who have the potential and commitment to pursue an international solo music career with the use of a fine instrument. A J.B. Guadagnini of Milan, c.1750, is now available for loan. Send in your applications by 31 May 2013.

Local visual artist Michael Lee's latest exhibition, Some Detours, is currently being presented at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany. Lee's work showcases 11 acrylic paintings featuring floor plans of solitary spaces, which he uses to examine the topic of 'loneliness'. The exhibition also sees the launch of the artist's new series of books entitled "Corridors: Notes on the Contemporary". Lee participated in the Künstlerhaus Bethanien International Residency Programme which culminated in this exhibition.
