Dear Paul,

Well, it’s been a long year & one of the toughest economic environments we have ever seen, especially in WA. Markets will fluctuate over the Festive Season, as volatility is now a normal part of investment life.

Australia is still a small market, and a small economy, so we will be subject to the overseas markets. In particular, this time of year we will see a run up to 31 December 2016 for the end of financial year in the US and other European countries, and then likely to have the New Year hangover in January 2017, so be patient if markets do fluctuate.

Remember your long-term financial goals & that investments are structured with that in mind.

We attach a somewhat controversial editorial from Patersons Securities. Although we don’t agree with all of their views, we do agree with some, particularly that mainstream media is destroying their own credibility, “Never let journalistic integrity get in the way of turning a dollar.” As such, media organisations are commonly not good places to invest new funds.

We too believe there is a high probability the EU will ultimately breakup & is a prime reason why we are US dollar & US investment focused.

2016 has been another year of change, with the uncertainty of the Federal Election, a drop in interest rates to historically low levels, and more regulation in lending (with interest rates a focus for banks), and tightening by banks on various lending rules for overseas borrowers, as well as business banking.

2016 has been a change for AAG too, with a few new faces to the team, and the departure of a few faces through retirements and changes in lifestyle.

2017 will be an interesting year for us here in WA, as we will be gearing up for another term of King Colin, or a new ruler in Mark McGowan. Add to this the tough economic times (with the highest unemployment rate we have had for 14 years), and then new superannuation rules to navigate, and 2017 is shaping up for a year of change again.

We take this opportunity to say thanks for being valuable clients of AAG. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the time with family, friends and any travel, and we look forward to assisting you in 2017.

Kind Regards,

Simon Chesson
Director
