Dear PEEM and NanoESCA users, dear interested colleagues!

You are cordially invited to attend our 8th FOCUS PEEM Workshop, which will be jointly held both at the FOCUS GmbH in Hünstetten-Kesselbach and at the ScientaOmicron GmbH in Taunusstein, Germany, from June 17th to 19th, 2020

17th of June: Seminar day with poster session
18th & 19th of June: Practical sessions (limited to ca. 20 participants)

The workshop is addressed to all researchers who are interested both in PEEM and NanoESCA/Momentum Microscopy and its techniques and capabilities or are already working with such kind of instruments and are interested to improve theory and working practices. The private atmosphere will allow you to discuss individual questions directly with our R&D and application experts throughout the entire workshop.
You will get the chance to talk to the invited guest speakers who are all leading scientists in PEEM and/or Momentum Microscopy research, covering a broad expertise ranging from time resolved PEEM to high resolution small area spectroscopy and Momentum Microscopy. In addition, the workshop is also thought to stimulate the exchange of tips and tricks between the different FOCUS PEEM and NanoESCA user groups, which takes place naturally throughout the workshop.
The duration of the workshop will be two and a half days, with food and beverages being provided all the time. Beside the technical training we also like to include aspects of fore front research to the workshop. Hence we are happy to welcome the following invited guest speakers:

• N. BARRETT / CEA-Saclay, France
• T. OHKOCHI / JASRI, SPring-8, Japan
• N. FOX / University of Bristol, UK
• B. STADTMÜLLER/ TU Kaiserslautern, Germany

The workshop will be starting on Wednesday as a full symposium day with the above guest talks and ends with a joint poster session.
The participants of the second part during Thursday and Friday will attend the technical training sessions with our instruments and related seminars. A dinner is held on Thursday evening.
As in previous years the participants of the technical part of the workshop will be divided into four teams. These teams will take part in seminars and parallel practical training sessions in the labs. Seminar sessions will focus on various PEEM and NanoESCA techniques, the theory of PEEM and NanoESCA electron optics and on optimization strategies with challenging samples, in order to maximize your scientific results. An increasing interest in both k-space imaging / momentum microscopy and 2D spin filtered PEEM/NanoESCA will be addressed accordingly. We will look onto these new fields from different perspectives. The practical sessions will focus on how to use and optimize an energy filtered PEEM, using the retarding field Imaging-Energy-Filter of an IEF-PEEM or the double hemisphere analyser of our NanoESCA III as well.
To enable a nice poster session with fingerfood, beer, pretzels and fruitful scientific discussions, we invite all participants to present PEEM and/or NanoESCA related posters on Wednesday night.
Please notice: The practical sessions with our instruments (Thursday and Friday) are limited to about 20 participants only whereas the participation on the symposium day with the poster session on Wednesday is not hardly restricted. Please tick accordingly on your contact form if you are interested to join not only the symposium but also the practical sessions. The participation will be decided on a first come / first serve basis.
