Policy

NY Hep C ‘Baby Boomer’ Testing Law is in effect! NYS Hepatitis C Testing Law. 2171 requires healthcare providers to offer hep C test to baby boomers. Requires full diagnostic testing for those who screen anti-body positive and either follow-up health care or referral to a health care provider who can provide follow-up health care. See new Frequently Asked Questions document from NYS Department of Health.

NYS Anti-Mail Order Pharmacy Law (A05502B): Prohibits health Insurance companies from requiring patients to use mail-order plans for prescriptions drugs (except negotiated union plans) and that patients have the choice of filling their prescriptions through mail-order or local pharmacies without added co-payments or fees (effective 12/12/2011). If the consumer does not have a clear option, a complaint can be filed through Attorney General's Health Care Consumer's Help Line 1-800-342-3736.

Viral Hepatitis Testing Act of 2013, HR3723. Introduced December 12, 2013 in the US House of Representatives to amend the Public Health Service Act to revise and extend the program for viral hepatitis surveillance, education, and testing. Get a bill status widget for your website!

Discretionary Funding from City Council: Applications are now open for discretionary funding from the City Council for organizations and community groups. 

HHS announces Affordable Care Act mental health services funding. HHS plans to issue a $50 million funding opportunity announcement to help Community Health Centers expand services to people living with mental illness, and drug and alcohol problems.

North Star Fund Innovative Activism and Grassroots Action Grants: North Star Fund awards groups doing social change community organizing work in New York City around a range of social justice issues. February 13.
