Winner of seven Tony awards! October 28th - November 14th
Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by George Furth.
Director: Laura Thornton
Producers: Mariana Carrera and Laura Murray
Musical Director: Sarah Richardson
Choreographer: Ian Gilmore
Stage Manager: June Zinck
Some of the finest talent from the Metro area make up the cast and creative team of this amazing show, including alumni from Neptune Theatre, The Halifax Feast, and notable performers from professional and amateur productions alike. The cast demonstrates great depth of acting and vocal talent in the performance of this trail-blazing work from musical theatre's most renowned composer. Company is not to be missed!
Company is Stephen Sondheim's ode to the modern relationship. Winning seven Tony awards (including Best Musical, Best Lyrics, and Best Score), this dark comedy focuses on confirmed bachelor Robert, played by Anders Balderston, on the night of his 35th birthday. Sondheim's razor sharp wit explores dating and marriage from all sides, while asking, "what's it really all about?". Featuring some of Sondheim's most famous songs, audience members will see themselves in the vividly realistic characters on stage.
Cast List: Anders Balderston (lead), Joanne Arbuthnott, JC Douglas, Claire Milton, Ian MacDermid, Kevin Kindred, Jenny Kearns, Jessica Lorraine, Steven Heisler, Rachel Hastings, Morgan Melnyk, Emily Jewer, Christine Gerogiannis, Stephen Deturbide

Directing a Sondheim musical is a lot like deciding to ride a unicycle across a tightrope – when you’ve never ridden a unicycle or been on a tightrope before. It’s exhilarating, terrifying and incredible when you reach the other side. His work is challenging and rewarding.
Company is at times searingly honest and slapstick funny. The sharp wit and observational humour of the characters has appealed to me since I first saw the show on PBS’s Masterpiece Theatre in 2006. I felt an immediate kinship with the main character and added the show to my “must do” list. Musical theatre is often dismissed as “light and fluffy” but this show speaks to the human experience in a real and nuanced way. I know that our audiences will leave the show not only humming a tune but reflecting on their own relationships and the people they love.
This is my fourth musical with Dartmouth Players and I am excited to be sitting in the Director’s chair with such a giving and talented production team. My co-conspirators Ian Gilmore (Choreographer) and Sarah Richardson (Musical Director) have fleshed out my vision for this show in a wonderful way, adding their unique flair. The backstage crew has worked tirelessly to realize our collective vision and keep the ship running tightly.
I hope that fans of Dartmouth Players will fall in love with this show as I have. The cast has done a stellar job of bringing the show to life and we look forward to sharing this experience with our audiences.
See you in the theatre!

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
Saturday, October 3rd, 1-4pm and Sunday, October 4th, 6-9pm.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) is a silly mashup of high art and base silliness. It's going to be a fast-paced production, and the cast will have lots of opportunities to add their own twist.
What we're looking for:
Three actors, age 18 and up, who are up for the challenge of performing all of Shakespeare's plays (in a greatly reduced, and very silly way) in under two hours. The actors will be playing themselves playing multiple characters, so they can be any age (over 18), gender, or ethnicity. The important thing is that the actors are creative, spontaneous, can handle some classical text, are up for very immature jokes, and can pull off high-energy physical comedy. (Don't stress if you haven't done Shakespeare before -- it's not as hard as you might think.)
What to expect at the audition:
The audition will include a cold read from the play (text will be provided). Auditioners will also be asked to read a short piece of Shakespearean text (about 14 lines, the length of a sonnet.) If you wish, you may prepare one in advance, but text will be provided. You are encouraged (but not required) to come prepared to tell your favourite joke. Bring your sense of humour, and be prepared to have some fun.
Please contact the director, Tamara Smith, at email@example.com if you have any questions.
