STAQ News - and what a Science Week it was!

We hope you enjoyed celebrating National Science Week? We certainly did! Excitement continues to build here as we prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary year of the Queensland Science Contest. This is your official reminder to ensure student entries are submitted (and registered) by the 6th September for judging on Saturday 14th September.  We are very pleased to acknowledge this year's sponsors: ITC Publications, Micreo, and The University of Queensland.  Please also be aware that the Awards Ceremony date has shuffled ever so slightly to be on Saturday 19th October at The University of Queensland.  This eNews is jam-packed, and there is even a special member giveaway if you refer a friend to STAQ - check it out!

STAQ AGM Date Claimer

The 2013 STAQ AGM is being held on the 15th October at UQ. More details coming soon. If you are interested in contributing your skills to our Council in 2013/14, please feel free to give us a call.

Brisbane Trivia Night a Big Hit!

Thank you to all of our members and supporters in Brisbane who were able to join us at the STAQ/ASC Trivia Night and helped us to celebrate National Science Week. Fun was had by all and there were prizes galore.  Best of all, Green Beacon is keen to help us with another social event. Stay tuned!

Teachers Networking Forum - UQ

Chemistry, Physics, Maths, ICT and Science Teachers are invited to attend the Engineering & Technology Teachers Networking Forum on Monday 28 October (5:00pm – 7:30pm). This event is the first in a series of professional development activities which will count towards your CPD. The series will be focused around the addressing the knowledge gap, the first year experience and career pathways of the engineering/technology lifecycle and will be run by Associate Professor Lydia Kavanagh, Director of First Year Engineering at UQ. The Annual O’Donnell School Lecture Tour

Bookings are now being accepted from schools for our guest lecturer Dr Sarah Creswell to present to their students and the topic this year is CSI:Chemistry

Inquiry Report Date Extended

On 6 August 2013 the Legislative Assembly extended the reporting date for the Inquiry into assessment methods use in senior Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics in Queensland schools.  The committee is now required to report to the Legislative Assembly by 14 October, 2013

Peter Doherty Award Winners Announced!

The Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in Science and Science Education have been announced. Congratulations to all, and we look forward to hearing more about your fantastic work!
