God's Relationship with us: Transactional or Relational

This Week's Scripture Verse

Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
The Pharisees and some legal experts from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus.
They saw some of his disciples eating food with unclean hands.
(They were eating without first ritually purifying their hands through washing.
The Pharisees and all the Jews don’t eat without first washing their hands carefully. This is a way of observing the rules handed down by the elders.
Upon returning from the marketplace, they don’t eat without first immersing themselves.
They observe many other rules that have been handed down, such as the washing of cups, jugs, pans, and sleeping mats.) So the Pharisees and legal experts asked Jesus, “Why are your disciples not living according to the rules handed down by the elders but instead eat food with ritually unclean hands?” He replied, “Isaiah really knew what he was talking about when he prophesied about you hypocrites. He wrote, This people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far away from me. Their worship of me is empty since they teach instructions that are human words. You ignore God’s commandment while holding on to rules created by humans and handed down to you.” Then Jesus called the crowd again and said,
“Listen to me, all of you, and understand. Nothing outside of a person can enter and contaminate a person in God’s sight; rather, the things that come out of a person contaminate the person.”
“It’s from the inside, from the human heart, that evil thoughts come:
sexual sins, thefts, murders, adultery, greed, evil actions,
deceit, unrestrained immorality, envy, insults, arrogance, and foolishness.
All these evil things come from the inside and contaminate a person in God’s sight.”

All-Church Education Hour Begins
on September 12 at 9:45am!

Come hear Pastor Mary talk about her sermon
and go into greater depth about the scripture!
Don't miss this!

Education Hour Begins

Exciting times at Green Valley UMC, we are beginning our All Church Education Hour at 9:45am on September 12, 2021. Why is it called "All Church?" Because many times church members will attend either the early or late service and it can feel like there are two different churches. By coming together in the middle we will get to know people we might rarely, if ever, see or meet. This one hour each Sunday morning will help us be a stronger and more unified church, a real church family. So, plan to come early if you normally worship at 11:00am or plan to stay if you attend worship at 8:30am. At Green Valley we will be a church that worships our God and comes together in fellowship to learn and draw closer to God. So, plan now for a complete worship and spiritual growth experience every Sunday. We are one Church!

Education Hour Kick-Off

Pastor Mary will kick-off our new All Church Education Hour with an exciting series. During the sermon have you ever wanted to ask a question? What did she mean? How did the Pastor come up with that example? I've read that passage before, aren't there other important points, why did the Pastor choose that one? In every passage of Scripture there are so many different points or messages yet the Pastor will zero in on one, why? In this series Pastor Mary can talk to us in greater depth about the passage  by going into greater depth and then explain how she focused her message. We will be able to ask questions and have a dialogue/discussion to help us all gain a greater understanding of scripture and how we can apply it to our daily lives. For those who attend the 11:00am service you will be getting a "sneak preview" of the sermon and be able to listen to the message with a more in-depth understanding. Don't miss this kick-off series on September 12, 2021 as we grow in our faith and build our church.

Zoom Study - Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

“Our lives today aren’t that much different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament."

•Like Mary, we long to be  at the Lord’s feet…but our daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave us alone.

•Like Martha, we love Jesus and really want to serve him…yet we struggle with weariness, resentment and feelings of inadequacy.

•Then Jesus comes into the midst of our busy lives and extends an invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany.  Jesus invites you to choose the ‘better part’, a joyful life of intimacy with him that flows into loving service.” (Joanna Weaver)

This 12 week bible study will be lead via Zoom on Wednesday evenings beginning September 15 at 6:30pm.
There will also be a short video presentation prior to our discussion.

The book can be purchased on for $9.99
