I'm quite excited about worship this Sunday!
It's World Communion Sunday and we have some special things planned to help us open our hearts and minds as we celebrate that we are a part of a global community. During these chaotic months it may have been easy for us to wonder if God is present. I am praying that Sunday's worship will help to boost your faith that God is indeed walking with us - Pastor Mary.
Last week we learned that Karin Salzman will be completing her time as GVUMC Children's Director. Karin has been with us for almost 10 years. As many of you know Karin has been influential in helping our children grow in their faith through Sunday School, Pioneer Club, VBS and many other church activities.
We want to send Karin off with our blessing as she begins her new job. If you would like to be a part of our collective church gift please send or bring in your money to the church office by next Wednesday at 1:00. Or give online - noting that your gift is for Karin's good bye gift.
In addition, it would be wonderful if you send a card or note for us to give Karin. Share a picture, a special memory your child has of their time with Ms Karin and any words of encouragement.

This Week's Scripture Verse
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

Spiritual Development Class Update!
Our three teachers and many students have been very the past few weeks studying and growing in their faith!Above is a picture from the class Faith and Doubt - John's Gospel
taught by Ash Dotson
World Communion Sunday offers congregations a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, they remember that they are part of the whole body of believers. Whether shared in a grand cathedral, a mud hut, outside on a hilltop, in a meetinghouse, or in a storefront, Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith.
The Communion Offering this month will go straight to the United Methodist International Scholarship fund to support young adults around the world who are seeking to further their education.
These funds are then administered by the General Boards' of Higher Education and Ministry and Global Ministries.

Online Memorial Page
Losing a member of our church family is always difficult, but during the current pandemic and time of separation it has become harder to share our grief, share stories and celebrate life as a church community.
We have created an online memorial board and we invite everyone to please share your memories, stories and/or photos of church members who have passed.
Click HERE to go to the online memorial board
We hope this online memorial board will help bring us together as a community and not only share our grief, but help celebrate the life of the members who have been a vital part of the GVUMC community.
If any committee or group would like to make an announcement to everyone who receives this newsletter, please email ANNOUNCEMENT PLEASE no later than Tuesday evenings.
