This Week's Scripture Verse
Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

Update from Pastor Mary - June 3, 2021
It's been such a blessing to worship in person with many of you! Now that we are back in person and many of our COVID restrictions have been lifted some of you are asking about our children's ministry, choir, etc.
We will be making a formal announcement soon, but let me share that Megan Gilley will begin
July 1 to direct our Children's Ministry. We will build back our program slowly beginning with a Children's Worship time after the Time at the Steps. This will be an informal time of learning in conjunction with that day's sermon. You will be hearing more from Megan soon.
Lindsay has great plans for the choir and will give you those details as well.
In the meantime, let me say that I am grateful for the support I have received from our Church leadership during this past year. I am grateful for our new staff, Dr. Lindsay Whelan and Moises Sol. Their part in our worship services has impacted my faith as I am sure it has yours.
And I am thankful for each of you. In many ways I feel like I am just getting to know you
and I am thankful that you have been patient as I learn your names.
God is indeed doing new things among us and through us.
Because of Jesus,
Please Keep In Your Prayers
The 2021 Annual Conference will be this week Friday - Sunday.
Please keep Pastor Mary and Lay Members Shaily Rivera, Robin Collins and Mel Jameson in your prayers as they meet with District leaders, other Pastors and Lay Members of our District.
Also note that Pastor Mary will be on vacation from June 14 through June 20.
Looking for Ways to Serve at GVUMC?
We are looking for volunteers in various areas of ministry.
All the vinyl lettering with the old worship times on the windows around the church campus need to be removed. This can be done with a window scraper tool. Not a particularly strenuous job but there are many to remove!
We need a cadre of folks (men and women - families too)
to welcome folks as they arrive for worship.
Welcome Desk attendees
Fellowship Coffee Coordinator
Do you enjoy the Holy Scriptures? Have a willingness to prepare and then share the readings to the congregation? We are adding folks to our list of liturgists for the coming season.
Help guide people to their seat during worship hours and help with monthly communion.
Are you interested in changing the slides in our presentation during our worship hours? Help to keep the hymn lyrics moving and share the scripture text as it is read!
No experience is necessary, just have a working button pushing finger!
We are looking for anyone interested in running the sound board during worship and also assisting and learning about operating the live stream. No experience is required!
Just a willingness to learn!
If you are interested in serving in any of the ways listed above, or have another gift you would like to share that may be a blessing, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
or call the church office: 702-454-7989.

Friends In The Desert Update
The number of volunteers working for GVUMC's Friends in the Desert team

Friends in the Desert is a ministry that helps feed the homeless and working poor in the city of Henderson. GVUMC has been involved with this ministry for over ten years. Through this ministry, home cooked meals are brought to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in downtown Henderson, and as many as 60 to 80 people of all ages (including children) are served by GV volunteers once a week, four times a month.
If you would like to volunteer preparing meals please contact Betty Kaminski: 702-712-9545
