Back to School Parade

Saturday August 22, at 6pm!

We are throwing a reverse drive through parade for our children, teachers, and school staff before they head back to school!

We would love for the congregation to join us!
Please arrive between 5:30pm and 5:45pm and park in every other space in the parking lot.

Please wear a mask and be sure to stay in your space. You are welcome to bring a lawn chair and sit behind your car. We invite you to make signs that say “we love you”, “God bless you”, “back to school”, etc. Then families and school staff  will drive thru the parade route and stop at a designated location for prayer and goodies from Pastor Mary, Ms. Megan and Ms. Karin.
The parade route will be available
from 6-7 pm.

We are looking forward to blessing our community as they start a very different school year.  Invite your friends and neighbors to come be "on the route" or to come drive thru and be blessed.

September Blood Drive

GVUMC is sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive on Friday, September 25, 1:00 - 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.

There is a constant need for a regular blood supply because blood can be stored for only a limited time for use. All of the blood donated is sent to local hospitals. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person - the gift of life.

To schedule an appointment, go online to
or call Lynn Dunn at 702-435-1662.
Her phone number is also in the church directory.

Jesus In Our Midst

Although our Sacred Texts were written thousands of years ago, they can still be truth to us today. One way we can be guided by stories we read in our Bible is whenever we experience life's ups and downs, especially whenever we are overburdened, to recall a story in scripture that mirrors our situation. Then consider how the characters in the story responded to their situation and how that response worked out for them and for others in the story. It is also helpful to ponder where God was in their story.

We will consider this practice this Sunday when I share another one of my favorite bible stories during my sermon. I hope you find it helpful.

This Weeks Scripture Verse

Luke 8:22-25
One day Jesus and his disciples boarded a boat. He said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they set sail. While they were sailing, he fell asleep. Gale-force winds swept down on the lake. The boat was filling up with water and they were in danger. So they went and woke Jesus, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” But he got up and gave orders to the wind and the violent waves. The storm died down and it was calm.

Newsletters will now be delivered only on Thursdays!

Friends In The Desert

This past Monday, Pastor Mary stopped by St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church to visit some of the GVUMC Members who were preparing and serving food for Friends In The Desert.

Friends In The Desert is a ministry that helps feed the homeless and working poor in the City of Henderson. GVUMC has been involved with this ministry for over ten years.

Through this ministry, home cooked meals are brought to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in downtown Henderson, and as many as 60 to 80 people of all ages (including children) are served by GV volunteers once a week, four times a month.

In addition to serving on the first Friday of the month, GVUMC volunteers serve on the first, second, and third Mondays of each month. Four different groups, each with their own unique menu, provide hot, nourishing meals to those who are less fortunate.
