This Week's Scripture Verse

John 1:35-51
The next day John was standing again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus walking along he said, “Look! The Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard what he said, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he asked, “What are you looking for?” They said, “Rabbi (which is translated Teacher), where are you staying?” He replied, “Come and see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon. One of the two disciples who heard what John said and followed Jesus was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Christ ).
He led him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter). The next day Jesus wanted to go into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” Philip was from Bethsaida, the hometown of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law and the Prophets: Jesus, Joseph’s son, from Nazareth.” Nathanael responded, “Can anything from Nazareth be good?” Philip said, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him, “Here is a genuine Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
Nathanael asked him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.” Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you are God’s Son. You are the king of Israel.” Jesus answered, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these! I assure you that you will see heaven open and God’s angels going up to heaven and down to earth on the Human One.”

Please Welcome Our New GVUMC Office Administrator!

Hi everyone!

My name is Carolina Ratnawati. My friends and family call me Lina (Lee-na). I've just joined this church as your office administrator. If you see a new face around, well, that'd be me

I was born in Indonesia and moved to St Joseph, MI before living in Sherman Oaks, CA with my wife. And as current residents in Las Vegas, we've been exploring this city with awe for a little over a year.

I received my Bachelor degree in Business Management from Western Governors University and my Project Manager license certificate from CompTIA A+. In addition, I am taking various online courses for photography, graphic design, digital painting, and Cisco networking system for IT.

Aside from my study and office work prior to living in Las Vegas, I was blessed with opportunities to showcase my artwork, particularly in drawing and painting, and being commissioned by churches in California and Oregon; the artwork of which I hope I can continue creating.

And speaking of creations, my wife and I love to travel, where we can witness God's stunning creations in many shapes and colors! You may check out the photos I've posted on my Facebook and Instagram

Again, I am so grateful to be a part of this church and am hoping to grow together as I will do my best for this family in Christ.

Congratulations to William Moser on winning the Nevada State Jr Amateur Golf Tournament!

Children's and Youth Ministries Update!

Hey y’all!
My name is Megan Gilley. I am the youth director here at GVUMC and starting in July,
I will be leading children’s ministries as well. I am so grateful for this honor,
but most importantly blessed to be taking on this expanded roll.

I appreciate everyone’s patience while we have navigated distance worship during the pandemic and continued regulations. It has been challenging and there will be growing pains ahead,
but I am excited and ready for the start.
It is a new journey and I can’t wait to be on it with all of our wonderful families.

I am looking for any and all volunteers!
You may currently email me at or text (702) 768-5568.

Sunday School will be in-person at 9:30 am!

In addition we will be transitioning from Pastor Mary's Time at the Steps
to Children’s Time in the Chapel during both worship hours - we will need two adult volunteers
for ten minutes during each service to assist with this!

Email/text to sign up for July!

Looking for Ways to Serve at GVUMC?

We are looking for volunteers in various areas of ministry.

Sticker Removal
All the vinyl lettering with the old worship times on the windows around the church campus needs to be removed. This can be done with a window scraper tool. Not a particularly strenuous job but there are many to remove!

Hospitality Volunteers
We need a cadre of folks (men and women - families too)
to welcome folks as they arrive for worship.
Welcome Desk attendees
Fellowship Coffee Coordinator

Do you enjoy the Holy Scriptures? Have a willingness to prepare and then share the readings to the congregation? We are adding folks to our list of liturgists for the coming season.

Help guide people to their seat during worship hours and help with monthly communion.

PowerPoint Operators
Are you interested in changing the slides in our presentation during our worship hours? Help to keep the hymn lyrics moving and share the scripture text as it is read!
No experience is necessary, just have a working button pushing finger!

We are looking for anyone interested in running the sound board during worship and also assisting and learning about operating the live stream. No experience is required!
Just a willingness to learn!

If you are interested in serving in any of the ways listed above, or have another gift you would like to share that may be a blessing, please email
or call the church office: 702-454-7989.
