Waking with Hope - Abiding in LOVE
Fifth Sunday of Easter
This Week's Scripture Verse
Gospel Reading John 15:1-8
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

We were notified in Feb. 2019 by the City of Henderson that we were in violation of a city ordinance with regard to how many trees are on our campus. After meeting with the city and determining the cost, the Trustees initiated a tree fund to pay for the trees.
Since then almost 50 church members have contributed over $10,000 dollars toward the purchase of trees and supplies for the planting.
A schedule was approved by the city to allow us to purchase the trees over time and plant them. We did the 1st planting in early Aug. 2019. The trees were to be delivered so that the member volunteers could get them planted in phases. Excluding the shut down time for the virus, it took about 1 year to get them all delivered and planted. On two Saturdays, April 3rd and then the 17th, we finished planting all but two trees next to the main entrance of the sanctuary.
Including them, the total will be 70. A nice biblical number.
About 16 church members have participated in 8 different planting days. And have planted 11 types of trees. The trees are mandated by the city to be desert or drought tolerant plants.
The two trees by the entrance should only take a day to plant.
The trees planted so far are:
African Sumac - 13
Australian Bottle - 9 *
Cape Honeysuckle - 1
Carolina Cherry - 1
Desert Museum Palo Verde - 3
Fantex Ash - 3
Orange Jubilee - 1
Raywood Ash - 18
Red Push Pistache - 9
Shoestring Acacia - 5
Vitex Chaste - 7
Total - 70
* The two trees by the entrance will be Australian Bottle Trees

Refinance of the Church Mortgage:
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I kindly ask you place our church in your prayers over the next several weeks. We are in the process of refinancing our mortgage and although it looks good, until the process is completed nothing is for certain. To give you an update of how beneficial the refinance is to our finances.
**We currently owe for an additional 18 years. With the refinance it will drop to 15 years.
**We will save more than $5,000 per month in payment which equates to $60,000+ annually.
**We currently pay an additional Interest Swap fee every quarter; new loan - no fee.
Savings of thousands annually.
**Interest rate will be cut in half.
**This loan is amortized over 15 years and payable over 15 years.
**We won't be in the position to have to redo the loan every 10 years.
We are applying thru Christian Community Credit Union and they specialize in church loans. Our loan officer has given us the thumbs up, now we just have to get to the other side. If you have any questions kindly call your Church Treasurer, Wanda Shumar at 702-525-1734 or email her at email@example.com
Thank you and God Bless GVUMC!
