Charge Conference

Our yearly meeting with our District Superintendent will be Wednesday December 2 at 6:00 pm

This will be a Charge Conference with the church council as the voting body. Of course, all members are welcome to attend. Because of the uncertainty of the COVID virus activity the annual meeting is reduced to the Charge Conference in order for it to be practical on ZOOM.
If you are a member and interested in attending, please let the church office know so we can send you a ZOOM invitation.

Angel Tree

Virtual Angel Tree is up now at:

Each year, prisoners complete applications through their prison chaplain’s registry for their children to be included in Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program. Thanks to the Angel Tree program, children receive Christmas presents from their incarcerated parents. Last year over 600,000 children from across the country received gifts from their incarcerated parents thanks to volunteers.  Along with the gifts, each child receives an age-appropriate booklet with a clear Gospel message inside.
Green Valley UMC will  be participating in Angel Tree again this year.  The virtual tree will be set up on the website from November 1 through December 1  We will be sponsoring 77 children. Each child will have two ornaments - one listing a clothing item, the other with their wish for a toy or other “fun” item.  You will have the opportunity to select one of the virtual angels and purchase the requested gift. We are asking that you spend no more than $25. The gifts need to be returned to the church by Sunday, December 13 or earlier so they can be delivered to the children on Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20. Gifts are given in the name of the parent in prison, but with the understanding that this was made possible through Angel Tree and Green Valley UMC.
This is a great way for us to help families in our local community.

Eviction Support

Evictions have commenced in Clark County with a vengeance. I counted over 40 filed by one lawyer alone since November 1, 2020.
If you or a friend or family member have been served with an eviction notice (Pay or Quit), filing the CDC Declaration may help prevent the eviction. A copy is attached. Make sure to READ the Declaration. File it with the relevant court. Keeping it on your phone to show the judge will not help you. If you require legal assistance Bonanza Legal Group can assist for a reasonable legal fee. 702 405-1576.
Hopelink of Southern Nevada may help you with your housing needs if you have already been evicted.

The CDC Declaration is available HERE.

Flower Arrangements

Flower arrangements have returned to our worship services. The cost to sponsor Altar Flowers remains $40 per arrangement.

To order an arrangement, email Ryan at by Monday
(please feel free to order in advance if you wish).
Then, the requested flowers can be included in Sunday services. Remember, please include your name with the request as well as any dedication message you wish to make in sponsoring these flowers.
There is a two-per-week limit on floral arrangements.

Please, send payment to the church office at 2200 Robindale Road, Henderson, NV 89074 or give online and designate "Flowers - Altar". The Worship Committee is thankful that there is a way to include flowers for our weekly service. Have You Given Jesus Something To Eat?

Sunday is Christ the King Sunday
We will look at the Matthew 25 parable about the goats and the sheep meet King Jesus. I pray that Sunday's Worship hour reminds us that God loves all of us and  desires that we treat one another with kindness and respect without seeking reciprocity.
Moises Sol along with Jody Porter will lead us in music
and Ash Dotson will be our liturgist.

This Week's Scripture Verse

Matthew 25:31-46
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to
drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you
something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Online Memorial Page

Losing a member of our church family is always difficult, but during the current pandemic and time of separation it has become harder to share our grief, share stories and celebrate life as a church community.
We have created an online memorial board and we invite everyone to please share your memories, stories and/or photos of church members who have passed.

Click HERE to go to the online memorial board

We hope this online memorial board will help bring us together as a community and not only share our grief, but help celebrate the life of the members who have been a vital part of the GVUMC community.

Visitation Ministry

Although we cannot visit in person, please let the church office know if you or a family member are in the hospital so we on the visitation team can uplift you in prayer as well as visit by phone.
We on the visitation team also reach out to those who feel isolated at home, in assisted living, or in nursing homes.

Call the church office or Lynn Dunn at 702-435-1662 so we are aware of who would like visited by phone calls until we can meet in person.

If any committee or group would like to make an announcement to everyone who receives this newsletter, please email ANNOUNCEMENT PLEASE no later than Tuesday evenings.
