Walking with Hope - Jesus the Good Shepherd
Fourth Sunday of Easter

This Week's Scripture Verse

Gospel Reading John 10:11-18

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.
The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep.  I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.  So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.
I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again.
I have received this command from my Father.”

Please Keep In Your Prayers

Emily Clemente Higby was born on January 31, 1949 in Quezon City, Philippines.
She was called to heaven on March 22, 2021.

Emily graduated from college at the age of 18 with a B.S. in Psychology and Social Sciences from Chapman University. She later added graduate degrees from the University of San Diego in Psychology and Special Education.

Along with being a wife, mother and grandmother, she worked as a teacher, a marriage and family counselor, a travel agent, a school director, a paralegal, a hotel manager, and as most of you knew her, the co-founder and director of the Las Vegas Asian Community Resource Center, where she generously gave her time, her talents, and her energy.

Emily loved travel, food, learning about international cultures, and helping others.

She was preceded in death by her father Elpidio Clemente; her mother Amparo Ablola Clemente; and her sister Patrocinio Clemente.

She is survived by her husband Douglas Higby, her son Eric Westerhoff; her daughter Kristin Cornwell; her grandsons Corey Stark and Kai Stark; her great-granddaughters Leah Stark and Brie Stark; her sister Teresita Clemente Obrero; and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Asian Community Resource Center.

NEW CLASS ON MAKING DECISIONS

NEW CLASS ON MAKING DECISIONS
VIA ZOOM
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS, 6:30-8:00
APRIL 28 - JUNE 2

As we come slowly out of this time of quarantine and pandemic, all of us will be faced with making decisions about how to return to our old normal or to embrace the "new normal".  We will succeed in making right decisions if God is along our side as we walk into the future.

Join us as we use the book, Decision Making & Spiritual Discernment-The Sacred Art of Finding Your Way by Nancy L. Bieber.  We will cover the three essentials of Spirit-led decision making - willingness, attentiveness and responsiveness.  The book is available thru Amazon, Upper Room and a variety of other sources.

The group will be led by Charlotte Ashworth.
Please send her an email at bacatx@gmail.com if you have any questions

Refinance of the Church Mortgage:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I kindly ask you place our church in your prayers over the next several weeks. We are in the process of refinancing our mortgage and although it looks good, until the process is completed nothing is for certain. To give you an update of how beneficial the refinance is to our finances.

**We currently owe for an additional 18 years. With the refinance it will drop to 15 years.
**We will save more than $5,000 per month in payment which equates to $60,000+ annually.
**We currently pay an additional Interest Swap fee every quarter; new loan - no fee.
Savings of thousands annually.
**Interest rate will be cut in half.
**This loan is amortized over 15 years and payable over 15 years.
**We won't be in the position to have to redo the loan every 10 years.

We are applying thru Christian Community Credit Union and they specialize in church loans. Our loan officer has given us the thumbs up, now we just have to get to the other side.  If you have any questions kindly call your Church Treasurer, Wanda Shumar at 702-525-1734 or email her at wshumar@aol.com

Thank you and God Bless GVUMC!
