Heartland Campus Safety Summit 2014
Heartland SummitJana’s Campaign is again hosting the Heartland Campus Safety Summit this year. The 2014 Summit is scheduled for November 13th on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. The summit is designed for key campus personnel working to reduce gender-based violence on college campuses. States involved in the summit include Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.

This year’s summit will also include a pre-summit workshop on November 12, 2014. This workshop will include a six-hour interactive training session on bystander education and intervention programming. Jana’s Campaign Sponsors International Art Exhibition
In the Name of LoveIn February, Jana’s Campaign proudly sponsored the “In the Name of Love” international art exhibit which provided awareness on the issues of gender-based violence. The African art work was provided by a Namibian organization called Victims2Survivors. The pieces were originally displayed in the National Art Gallery of Namibia and most recently the exhibit has been in Geneva, Switzerland. The art was displayed in the Hays Art Center in Hays, KS from February 8th to April 16th. A small exhibit was also at the University of Kansas in February and March. Jana’s Campaign Received NGO Status from the United Nations
United NationsThe United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations has approved Jana's Campaign as "Recommended Special Consultative Status" for the UN Economic and Social Council. This will allow us to serve in an advisory role to the UN Commission on the Status of Women. This commission meets every year for two weeks at the UN headquarters in New York City. "We are excited to be able to play a small role in influencing international policy in the hopes of reducing gender-based violence world-wide", says Curt Brungardt, Board President. Final approval will come from the Economic and Social Council in July of this year.

2014 Membership Drive
Jana's Campaign, Inc.Jana’s Campaign is asking its friends to support our 2014 Annual Giving Membership Drive. This year we are seeking financial resources to help us build and expand our program activities in the areas of teen gender violence prevention and engaging boys and young men to stop gender violence. In 2012 and 2013, our Capital Campaign raised resources to help us establish a solid financial foundation. With this infrastructure in place, our 2014 annual giving membership drive seeks resources that will allow us to expand our impact in key programming areas. Jana’s Campaign Implements “Love Doesn’t Hurt” Program
Love Doesn't HurtOver the last ten months, Jana’s Campaign has been working to implement it’s teen dating violence program titled “Love Doesn’t Hurt.” Currently, we are targeting Kansas middle and high schools with the nationally recognized, evidence-based programs Safe Dates and Coaching Boys Into Men. Recently, board member Christie Brungardt and staff member Nicole Walz provided local presentations to area middle and high schools. Jana Mackey 2014 Distinguished Lecture Series
Dr. BasuOn April 30th, Dr. Urmi Basu was the guest speaker for the annual Jana Mackey Distinguished Lecture series on the campus of the University of Kansas. Dr. Basu has been internationally recognized for her work on human trafficking and gender rights advocacy.  She is the founder of New Light, a secular community development project in India that provides education and shelter to girls and women at high risk of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking. ChristieThe Kansas City-based business magazine’s fourth annual list of influential Kansans includes Christie Brungardt, Hays, a professor at Fort Hays State University and co-founder of Jana’s Campaign. Board President Curt Brungardt Speaks at Lansing State Prison
LansingOn the evening of April 10th, Curt Brungardt, Jana’s Campaign president spoke to approximately 160 inmates at Lansing State Prison (Kansas). He shared the story of Jana’s life and death and the impact violence has had on Jana’s family and friends. Curt would like to thank the people at Kansas Department of Corrections for making this event possible.

Confronting Violence in Our Communities Summit Scheduled for October 14th
Summit 2014Jana's Campaign is again a partner on the Confronting Violence in our Communities Summit which will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. This year the keynote speaker will be Dr. Karen Countryman-Roswurm from Wichita State University's Center for Combating Human Trafficking (CCHT). The focus of the day will be on the intersection between human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual exploitation, and the devastating impact these issues have on the youth in our communities. Jana’s Campaign Participates in the FHSU’s Campus Safe Initiative
Campus Safe InitiativeJana’s Campaign board and staff members have participated this past academic year in Fort Hays State University’s (FHSU) Campus Safe Initiative Task Force. The goal of this task force includes preventing abusive behaviors by promoting healthy relationships, ensure FHSU is prepared to respond to incidents and reports of violence, and ultimately change campus culture to one where respect and non-violent standards are the norm.
