Planning & Development Update
The CBD and South East Light Rail (CSELR) infrastructure project  
The NSW Govt's $1.6 billion light rail line, connecting Randwick with Circular Quay will begin soon with George Street  undergoing one of the biggest transformations ever seen in Sydney when the light rail line is built. The City has committed $220 million to the project and will continue to work closely with the State Government.

The light rail service will run from Circular Quay along George Street via Central railway station, along Devonshire Street in Surry Hills, through Moore Park to the University of NSW and to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick.
Darling Harbour Live
Darling Harbour Live (comprising Lend Lease, Capella Capital, HOSTPLUS, AEG Ogden and Spotless) and Lend Lease are partnering with the NSW Government to deliver Darling Harbour's redevelopment.

The convention and exhibition centre is currently being demolished and is expected to be completed in May 2014.

Planning consent was granted in Dec 2013 for the Development Application (DA) for a concept proposal for the revised Darling Harbour area.  Three detailed DA's and the new Hotel DA for the new Darling Harbour area are currently being assessed by the Dept Planning and Infrastructure.  Read more HERE

Chinese Taste for Red Wine

The historic rise of the Chinese market's taste for red wine, with a record 136% increase in sales over the last 5 years, symbolises both the cultural value of the colour Red and the China market's thirst for it. 

Red Bottle manager, Will Figueira said,  "As a local business in Haymarket we have seen an increase in sales across both our local and international red wine ranges as well as an increase in Chinese customers over the last 12 months." Read more HERE


Hing Loong, Dixon Street, Chinatown / Haymarket

Reported as Chinatown's first Chinese named residential building, Hing Loong is one of the area's first new development along the historic and high traffic fanfare of Dixon Street and will be completed in June 2015.

With over 15 years of financial experience specialising in stockbroking and equity derivatives, Henry is the Division Director for Private Wealth at Macquarie Bank and two e-commerce businesses, namely Temple and Webster, and Parcel Point.

How long have you worked in Haymarket?  East Ocean has been in Haymarket for almost 30 years and we have 2nd generation customers.

Could you indicate what makes your business competitive in your industry and local area?  We have 18 tanks of live seafood and highly accredited chefs from HK and China specialising in Cantonese cuisine. We also won 2 Wine Glasses in the Wine List of Year Awards over the last few years and operate 365 days a year.

How do you see your industry changing in the next financial year?  More visitors and new residents coming from China, Korea, Malaysia & etc. We see more demand for different styles of cuisine on offer in Chinatown.

What changes have you observed in the local area and business community during this time?  The Lane upgrades, many high rise residential & service apartment being build, thus more people enjoy city night life, increase night time activities. Also there have been more China festival activities, celebration organized by Sydney City council & HCC.

Why do you think the Haymarket Chamber attracts so many members?  Haymarket provides a central hub for businesses and members where we can interact with each other which enhances relationships & thus enhances more business activities around Haymarket.

Could you describe Haymarket area in three words? Truly diversified centre (of Sydney)
