How long has your business been in Haymarket? Our accounting firm has been operating near Haymarket for four years.

could you indicate what makes your business competitive in your industry and local area?
We focus on personalized and quality services. As a professional accounting firm, it is fundamental that we apply our technical knowledge and expertise to help our clients make informed business and investment decisions. In addition, we also take time to listen to our clients’ needs to ensure our services are tailored to what they are looking for.  All our clients are treated and respected as unique and their priorities are also our priorities.
What changes have you observed in the local area and business community during this time?
The surge in residential development in Haymarket with more people living in this area has created new business opportunities, especially for retail and restaurants business. I have also noticed an increase in corporate presence in Chinatown over the years which suggests more Australian businesses have become aware of the potential strong market growth in this area.
Why do you think the Haymarket Chamber attracts so many members?
The friendly and highly professional culture of the Chamber attracts new members and makes them feel welcome. The Chamber regularly organizes networking events to provide a platform for members to connect with each other to create business opportunities. Its close working relationship with City of Sydney Council and local MPs also provides an effective communication channel between local community and government agencies.
Could you describe Haymarket in three words?
Vibrant, Diverse, Progressive
What do you see as happening in 2014-15?
Whilst businesses should always be prepared for challenges, I am optimistic that 2014/2015 will be another year of opportunities. Despite signs of slowing down of the Chinese economy, I think it will continue to sustain the economic growth in the Western world. Back home, the high level of foreign investment in Australia which we have experienced in the last couple of years is likely to continue into 2014-2015.
How do you see the plans in and surrounding Haymarket for the future?
Haymarket is undergoing an exciting transformation under the approved redevelopment plan. Whilst it is expected that the redevelopment will affect some businesses and cause challenges and inconvenience in the short term, the local community would benefit from the redevelopment in the long run. Haymarket will become a larger and broader community hub and will attract more attention and people from other parts of Sydney.
Favourite place in Chinatown?
Dixon Street mall. It is an interesting place that blends the old with the new. Whilst the Paifang arches and food stalls in old-fashioned food courts preserve the history of Chinatown, the new shops and alfresco dining along the mall have introduced a modern lifestyle into the area.
Any advice to other businesses?
Business owners must never stop learning and be aware of changes in their industry. Don’t be discouraged by mistakes so long we learn from them. Always set goals but be flexible.
What is one of your favourite quote?
“If you can dream it, you can do it” – Walt Disney\
