 Collaborative Advantage
"If you choose the right purpose, then certain people will be attracted by that.
They will be motivated and unified. ..The process fills in the open spaces.
But strong purpose ties it together. "

Robert Wong Executive Creative Director of Google Creative Lab.*

The forthcoming business environment will see companies focused towards their competitive advantage.  This may include transforming their business model, mastering the basics again, reviewing their culture and human capital or developing as Harvard Business Review (HBR) refers to as a  'collaborative advantage'.

At HCC we frequently see the collaboration advantage occur between member to member whether that be between members in property and law services or with members in finance and investment, our network's strength lies in our members' focus to forge and foster strong relationships with other members.

At our upcoming Christmas networking event, when meeting other members, consider our networking system and the potential possibilities towards your collaborative advantage and how your business can create'new value' rather than just exchange services.  Read more HERE

Leigh Morgan
English Language Centre Principal

Nan Tien Institute

How long has your business been in Haymarket?  The English Language Centre has been in Haymarket since August 2014 although Fo Guang Shan has been expanding its international university consortium over the last 40 years.
Could you indicate what makes your business competitive in your industry and local area?  The English Language Centre offers IELTS preparation by the most experienced teachers in this field and also conduct weekend seminars. Recently Venerable Huifeng, Assistant Professor at Fo Guang University, Taiwan, gave a free seminar entitled Don't Forget to Breathe which really helped participants to focus on students' wellbeing. Our focus on mindfulness and wellbeing reflects  the Deloitte Positioning for Prosperity report which identifies Preventative Health and Wellness as a growth sector in Australia and in many countries with an aging population.
Why do you think the Haymarket Chamber attracts so many members?  The events are a great chance to network with others who are leaders in their field. It is easy to hear about the issues in your own industry but the HCC gives you a chance to network with leaders of other industries who are also working towards the prosperity of this area of the world.
Could you describe Haymarket in three words?  Delightful, Dazzling and Delicious
What do you see as happening in 2014-15?  We see a growing number of International Students who will recommend the fantastic lifestyle and opportunities in Sydney to their friends.
How do you see the plans in and surrounding Haymarket for the future?  Haymarket is such a central location which is close to services and world class-education that the area seems well positioned to grow.
Favourite place in Chinatown?  My niece and nephew came on the treasure hunt through the Chinese gardens and they loved it. We also enjoyed an N2 icecream.
Any advice to other businesses?  In a global economy translation is worthwhile. People really appreciate it when you make the effort to speak to them in their language.
What is one of your favourite quote?
"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart"  Nelson Mandela
