As one of Sydney’s most exciting nights to celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY), Haymarket Chamber of Commerce’s (HCC) CNY banquet last Friday attracted over three hundred Chamber members, businesses, artists, community leaders and featured our Official Special Guests; Dr Charlie Teo AM, The Hon. Concetta Fierravanti-Wells,The Hon. Victor Dominello, Alex Greenwich MP and Deputy Lord Mayor Kerryn Phelps.

Following this event’s successful launch last year; featuring the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Lucy Turnbull, the HCC CNY event was a special evening embodying the CNY celebration of Chinese culture, music, food and spirit whilst also raising funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, founded by Dr Charlie Teo AM.

With energetic Lion Dancers, one of Sydney’s only Chinese jazz singers and traditional Chinese dance performances during the12 course banquet extravaganza, the event welcomed many VIP guests with the City of Sydney Councillor Robert Kok, Councillor Craig Chung, Councillor Jess Scully, Councillor Jess Miller, Councillor Philp Thallis, Councillor Linda Scott and Councillor Angela Vithoulkas with Edmund Capon AM, OBE.

As HCC's first ever charity raising event, our EC & HCC members kindly donating almost $2500 worth of prizes, HCC raised almost $4000 for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and we thank the generosity of our guests on the night for supporting CBCF.

HCC thanks our the support of our event sponsors; Art Atrium, P & G Mode Realty, Umi Group, Prestige Strata, Abacus Visa Immigration, Avantro Legal, Banna Group, The Eight, Red Bottle, Surfside Hotels and PublicStyle.  We also appreciate the wonderful work of our MC Ky Chow, photography by Aaron Stathi, Ken Johnson, DJ Dumplings, Sunny Siu Videography and events team Rei Wang and Ada Gau. 2017 Forecast The 丁酉 Fire Rooster Year
by Mina Zheng www.fengshuiaustralia.com

The ancient Chinese considered the rooster to have forecasting abilities. Roosters are intelligent and fast thinkers with the Fire Rooste known to be energetic, passionate and anxious. The rooster enjoys good looking things and is artistic, so the year ahead could be beautiful, romantic, creative, enjoyable, but also accompanied by frustration.

In 2017 finance will still be one of the main concerns. People will seek opportunities to make money. It will be a hard working year, however extra wealth will be hard to find. Finances will be up and down.  Read more HERE

Sydney Metro West Plans

In Novermber 2016, the NSW Govt announced a new underground metro railway line to be built between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.  The four key precincts identified is Paramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, Bays Precinct and Sydney's CBD.  The planning process has started for the next stage of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, with a State Significant Infrastructure Application Report lodged last week for the Sydenham to Bankstown upgrade.

This Sydney Metro initiative aims to cut travel times between Sydenham and Macquarie Park by at least 16 minutes, as well as cutting up to 11 minutes on the trip between Bankstown and Martin Place.   The Bankstown line will have new and direct access to major CBD metro stations and beyond, including Martin Place, Pitt Street, Barangaroo, Victoria Cross in North Sydney, Chatswood and Macquarie Park.  New-generation, fully air-conditioned metro trains are also to be part of this major transport upgrade.

Further consultation will take place later this year when the Environmental Impact Statement for the Sydenham to Bankstown upgrade is placed on public exhibition.
