Haymarket's historical transformation continues  to evolve and this presents us with many opportunities to lead the way as an internationally diverse, unique and adaptable destination.

Industry Leadership

Forbes recently reported the key qualities of industry leaders include being knowledgeable, well-connected, credible, amiable  and helpful.  In particular being 'helpful' enables leaders to share, collaborate and enhance each other's knowledge and growth.

Based on this leadership pathway, HCC is currently forging new connections with key groups both overseas and locally to collaborate and share our place making knowledge to develop  our industry leadership and drive economic growth in our precincts.

 George Wing Kee
Director of P & G Mode Realty and Co-founder of HCC

Interview story courtesy of  Village Life Sydney:

It is never too late to build an influential community. Take George Wing Kee for an example. George was in his early 70’s when he co-founded the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce, said to be one of the most influential business associations in the Sydney CBD.

George and his son Peter manage residential properties in and around Haymarket through their business P&G Mode Realty, located in the heart of Haymarket. The area is better known to Sydney-siders as Chinatown.
In 2006 they joined six local business owners to discuss how they could create a voice for the area.

“At that stage we had the Hong Kong, Chinese, Singaporean and Malaysia business people in the area meeting on their own. We saw the potential for business growth if we all came together,” says George.

After meeting once a month for eight months, the group formed the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce. “At our inaugural meeting we had more guest speakers than members,” George says with a smile.

The Chamber now has 150 members. With companies focusing on local marketing, the membership includes some big corporate names and George counts a few hundred more members coming in under them.

We have an active community. There is a regular newsletter, member discounts, positions on proposed local development, a walking tour phone application, a food lovers and a live, work and play guide for the area.
