Chinese Language Central to Business Growth

Australia’s number one trading partner and fastest growing inbound tourism market is China, so communicating in Mandarin is a key component in planning for the future. Recent ABS  has also shown that Mandarin has now increased by 52.2 per cent and is Australia’s second most spoken language to English. In our aim to harness our new horizon with China, HCC intends to incorporate Mandarin in some of our future communications.

Simon Park, Director Bullion List

How long has your business been in Haymarket?

Bullion List has been trading for about 5 years, progressing from a sole trader concept to its current form as fully-fledged bullion trading solution. We've been a member of the Haymarket Chamber for about 3 years, but have become particularly active this year with the launch of our new real-time trading platform. We have a strong wholesale and retail clientele in the CBD and Haymarket area.

Could you indicate what makes your business competitive in your industry and local area?

We have taken an ancient conecpt and applied the latest technology. Our customers can have the very latest in bullion products shipped right to their door, fully insured, at market-leading prices. We also pride ourselves on product innovation; we aim to balance value and beauty. Being active at a retail and wholesale level generates market intelligence at various stages of the business cycle and allows us to adapt accordingly.
What changes have you observed in the local area and business community during this time?

The Internet is truly transformational; it is challenging the accepted approach to virtually every aspect of life - from finances, to healthcare to social interaction. We've observed that only those businesses that selectively embrace change are remaining competitive.

Why do you think the Haymarket Chamber attracts so many members?

Without stereotyping, I think it has do with cultural mix and location. Haymarket is a dynamic area so members use the Chamber to stay on top of trends. Also, there is more to business is Asia than the bottom line; relationships are at the foundation. We see the Chamber as providing the opportunity to develop these building blocks

Any advice to other businesses? Stay lean and efficient.

What is one of your favourite quotes? If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.
