PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

Thomas Street Upgrades for 2015

Improvements and traffic changes to Thomas Street between Hay Street and Quay Street are part of the second stage of transforming Chinatown. This follows the successful upgrade of Little Hay Street, Factory Street and Kimber Lane.

The design for the area includes:
-
a new public space on Thomas Street between Ultimo Road and Thomas Lane

-
widened footpaths, more street trees and shade to create a strong pedestrian environment

-
integrated artwork along Thomas Street comprising street furniture, paving materials and paving patterns as well as various cultural elements paying homage to traditional Chinese gardens and Australian identity.

The City is developing detailed design plans for the Thomas Street transformation, with construction set to begin in mid-January 2015.  Find out more HERE

CBD 7 South East Light Rail Update

Critical Utilities work will occur Eight intersections on Goulburn and Pitt / Eddy Streets from 21 Dec 2014 - 11 Jan 2015.

Darling LIVE Update

The first key stages of work will be the demolition of the Entertainment Car park and infrastructure renewal activities primarily on Darling Drive. The Qantas Credit Union Arena (formally known as the Entertainment Centre) will remain open until the end of 2015.

Work will involve installing construction hoarding around the site, temporarily relocating the Convention Station pedestrian crossing to just north of the existing roundabout, and opening a new temporary taxi rank near the roundabout. Minor demolition works are also required. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times between the Convention Light Rail Station, Harbourside Shopping Centre and Darling Harbour.

Hours of work are 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 5pm on Saturdays. During the holidays, no construction work will occur from 23 December with work beginning back on 5 January.
