URGENT: House Vote on Governor’s Gun Control Bill Imminent – FIGHT THE BAN!
Contact Your State Delegates IMMEDIATELY!
The Federal Assault Weapons ban has been stripped from the Democratic-controlled Senate. This is an unsurprising result - especially after President Obama himself refused to push these initiatives that were proven to fail the first time. It is becoming clearer that once emotion has passed, Gun Control is not supported by the masses.
Right now in Annapolis, state legislators are considering amendments to Senate Bill 281, Governor Martin O’Malley’s deceptive and far-reaching attack on your right to self-defense. A recent Susquehanna poll found
that by a margin of 3-to-1, Maryland voters prefer that the legislature focus on the identification and treatment of mental health issues, rather than banning common semi-auto rifles. Yet the Governor persists. He continues to tilt at windmills.
Time is of the essence: a vote could occur at any time and the list of horrible anti-gun amendments is long.
Immediately call your state Senator and Delegates and the members of the House Judiciary Committee
to urge them to stand strong and oppose SB 281, and all anti-gun amendments. Contact the office of both Speaker Mike Busch and Judiciary Committee Vice-Chair Kathleen Dumais. Tell them all you oppose Gun Control in all of its forms.
With the 2014 elections next year, it is important to keep in mind that a vote in support of an amendment that bans “only” specific guns by name or model, or an amendment that bases your ability to defend yourself on whether or not your firearm has purely superficial features is still a gross overreach of power and an infringement on our fundamental civil rights. There is no room for compromise on a law designed to burden the rights of the law-abiding while ignoring those who truly cause harm in our society.
Be clear: tell them that you would rather they steal all of our rights from under us than to surrender even one!
Residents of Maryland deserve legislators who would rather stand up for the essential liberties and fundamental civil rights of their constituents than be a puppet of an anti-gun Governor more concerned with political career beyond 2014. Tell them your rights are not to be used as a political scorecard for wishful politicians.
The tide has turned and we have been capturing ground, but the Governor is pushing back. It is time to take a strong stand! This could be your last chance. We expect the most important voting on this issue to happen this week. Call your state legislators NOW. Urge them to oppose Senate Bill 281, its companion House Bill 294, and any anti-gun amendments or legislation that hinders a law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense.
